Default Is there any risk with putting games on Zune?

I was wondering if putting any of these games on the Zune, compiling them and what not, puts me at risk of messing up the firmware or anything? Is it easy to remove them completely along with the Games entry in the menu if I find it has issues? Thank you

No problems reported yet. As far as removing everything I don't know.

This is probably in the wrong section...

It's easy to remove games, although I don't know about the menu item. As far as risks go, i'm not sure. Both me and my friends zunes crashed yesterday while playing/loading games. He's returning his tomorow, and i'm currently in a replacement process with microsoft. Was this caused by zune games? I don't know. It is a bit strange that we both had our zunes crash though. I haven't heard of many other people having issues, so you should be fine. ours may just be coincidence.

Go to the game, and istead of selecting play, click delete.

the only real risk would a coder making a virus or something. So try to install games from people you trust.

Being that this is only a pre beta release, it is definitly a little risky. If your zune dies though, just do what you do with your computer when it dies. Reinstall the firmware. The only way to remove the games menu, is also to reinstall the firmware.

P.S. this is way in the wrong section. What is it with people and posting in the wrong place/

LPX, or sombody move this to general games discussion please

There is a risk doing anything, you could say that just by looking at your Zune you are risking it blowing up, and the parts flying through the air could poke your eyes out.

But yes, this is the wrong place and I'm sure there is some risk.

My zune got stuck on reboot after a game, but I just let the battery die and it was fine. Was pretty bad though, it wouldn't respond to the reset keys.

lol

How prominent is the risk of a virus encoded game? Like how easy would it be to fit in a game? Arnt they relitivelly small?

It would be incredibly hard to make a virus since you cannot run unmanaged code using the XNA Framework / Zune Games. It works similarly to XNA games on the Xbox 360 and no problems have been reported to date (as far as I know).

Problems with it freezing may be due to the fact that this software is in CTP. If a game freezes, it is probably due to an error in the code. You should be able to press and hold the back button to exit any Zune game at any time.

If you are having an issue repetitively with a game or with the software in general, please post to the XNA portion of http://connect.microsoft.com. Or send me a private message with how to reproduce the problem, the model of your zune and any other relevant information such as the game it happened in.

There are risks, its a pre-release, but I dont know how much of a risk it is. Worst comes to worst you'll have to do a hard reset of your Zune. I've still yet to experience any problems.

Someone should tell Apple that 1% of 10 000 000 iPods is still a lot of iPods.
