Exclamation HELP, firmware advice needed! TIA.

I am new... just got a Zune... checked my firmware and it says, 1.0. I am missing the Community and the Wireless options in my menu. After a few mins of research I found out via Microsoft that I need to update my firmware for those to show.

Before I go on and update my firmware... I know that there are a few hacks/mods for the Zune already... so my questions are;

1. Which firmware should I upgrade to? (Is there a specific firmware that I should try to install so it is easier for modding/hacking?)

2. How can update my firmware without using the software? As I understand once I run the software it auto updates the firmware to the latest one, which I think at this time is 1.4.

I just want to make sure before I update too much and then I don't have any ways to run any hacks/mods...

I thank you for your time in helping me

As I've said, 1.4 is the best option at the moment, as there are no firmware-type hacks for the Zune (all of the hacks we've seen so far are software based), and it seems that it is your best option to go to 1.4. Also we've had people who can downgrade their firmware too so if we do find any hacks you are welcome to downgrade since we have the firmwares up for download here.

I would suggest getting 1.4. I'll be honest in saying that we are not close to hacking the Zune firmware.
