Only the computer software counted plays before but now the device counts plays also. So when you play a song on the zune it will show up in the software next time you sync. It used to piss me off because my plays on the zune are completely different from plays on my computer so it would mess up playlists I tried to make.

the device counted plays way before 3.2 or even 3.1 for that matter..the only thing was it took a long while for your play count to get updated

i tried it on my gf's zune and dad's zune on 3 computers and it did NOT count plays on any of the devices. i tried syncing mutliple times in a row, signing in and out, unplugging the usb and plugging it back in. trust me it counted them on the computer but not off of the device i tried everything and multiple people on multiple zune forums complained about it.

All in all it's just another brick in the wall.

It counted them on the device... there's no way I've listened to 23,000 songs on my computer, since I hardly ever have the zune software open. Some users just had problems, and those should now be fixed.

when you listen to music on the computer the play count pretty much automatically gets updated, but when listening to the device, it takes a little while...like a few days in some cases. no matter how many times you sync. i hardly ever listen to my computer and i have 16,000 plays. the plays that are on it now are recent were from yesterday at work. i expect it to be filled with The Beatles tracks tomorrow or the next day since that is what i am listening to right now.
any way to check what the new frim does in the zune? i have the 120 and i see only space taken. tho i can swear that base got better.
Settings > About > Zune
It should say Version 3.20 if you have the latest firmware.
The one improvement I've noticed is that the Zune reacts much more quickly to starting or stopping syncing. Before it used to take forever to stop showing the syncing icon after I clicked 'Stop sync'. Now it's almost instant.
