How come the zune firmware has never been hacked, but the Ipods is hacked the second it hits the market?

The iPod firmware fails that's why.
Because Microsoft didn't want to make a hackable mp3 player.
Plus you can hack the iPod without a computer.

I guess that is exactly what you expect from apple. They wouldn't exist if it wasn't for microsoft. They went bankrupt. Microft donated them money to keep them in business so they would not become a monoply.

YES! AGREED!
Apple would be NOTHING if it weren't for
A. People that buy stuff because they see it on tv without doing any research on the subject.
B. Microsoft.

I prefer "hackable" firmware. I like to customize my devices, like my iRiver and iAudio. Actually my major complaint with the Zune is that it is so closed off from development by third parties. If it were more open, you'd see great improvements on the device, more functionality. Just look at what groups like Rockbox have been able to do on other devices. More format support, longer battery life, games, all that when they were not supported by the original firmware.

Also, the iPod classic has not been hacked as far as I know.

Well how many people do you know that have the Classic? At least where I live, the iPod faithful have gone on and moved to the Touch.

I don't think so either (about the Classic). And I agree. The iPod is more open, or at least previous models were, which allowed for more possibilities. We're stuck with what Microsoft gives us. It's not always bad, but things that people complain about (clock, menu font size, etc.) could easily be fixed. The iPhone and iPod Touch are 'hackable' and more open in general which is why there is much more to do with those devices.

I don't know so much about Microsoft's security system and whatnot. If anything, I think that since the iPod has dominated (and, let's face it, still does) the portable media player market, more effort has been placed in trying to hack and/or customize the Apple products.

I mean, if there were two pies locked in separate cages, and one pie had two thirds of it remaining and the other pie only had an eighth of it remaining, (and if we're assuming that you have an absolutely uncontrollable urge to consume all pies within sight) wouldn't you want to spend your time trying to unlock the cage with the greater pie ratio?

And to be perfectly fair, Microsoft did have time to learn from Apple and Creative's mistakes regarding the firmware.
