I think the metadata editing (IDv3 tags) has been a long time coming. All major audio players (iTunes, WMP, MediaMonkey, Winamp, AmaroK, Banshee, etc) can all edit tags, and before 2.5, the Zune could only do artist, album, album art, and maybe a few others. Not only that, but you had to edit each separately in a different location (left, center or right). Now you can edit the tags in one central menu, which I feel should be standard on any player.

The software does the same as everything else, but what got me was the style. IT's just not so boring to look at, and it makes searching for music a less mundane experience.

I've been trying to use MediaMonkey to fix the tags, but that didn't work as only some of the songs were changed on the Zune itself.

Now with the new software 2.5 update, it is just so easy to update song information and album information. I'm pretty sure this wasn't in the old version, but you can just click a few times and you get all the album's data, art, etc. and I think that's the thing that makes me like the Zune software now. I used to hate it, but I now I'm starting to like it. I'm updating my album pretty fast and I could probably finish tonight.
I'm still going to use Winamp, though ;D
This is EXACTLY how I feel about the new software...

I love the new update!!
From a friend of mine it also screwed up all the music info he already had, but he fixed it.

The one thing I still miss is the drag and drop feature with album covers.
Like u just drag the JPEG pic of the cover on the album in the Zsoftware and there it is. I really miss that =[
But now u have to copy it and paste in the software which isnt that bad either.

I had the same problem. But yeah its easy to fix.

Question

Can someone tell me if the new one will leave your tags made in other players(iTunes, Media Monkey) as they are? I keep hearing stories of it still rearranging and editing tags on it's own. True or not true?

On the old software, I really grew to dislike it due to the way it messed up my tags. I had a Zune 30GB but sold it. I'm now looking at the newer red one. I just need to know before I get it.

Thanks!

P.S. Well I guess I'll find out soon enough, I just got the red one today, LOL!

It seems i'm a bit late but i'm gonna go ahead and embarrass myself.........I just figured out today that you can change album art/song and album info all in the same screen. I updated to ver. 2.5 the day it came out but I continued to use MP3Tag to edit all my mp3's so they displayed properly on my Zune. I have the process down so it's not a huge deal but it's a task none the less.

I had a bunch of albums I was adding album art to today and had been clicking "add album art" like I always had and then at some point that option simply vanished, my only option then was "past album art" but it kept pasting the artwork off an album I had earlier added and a message came up each time that said "you can't remove this art but you can change it......." (that's pretty much the gist of it) so when I seen that it kept pasting the same artwork I decided to figure out how to change it. There was no option to "update album art" like there was when I first began this today so just for ****s and giggles I clicked on "edit" after right clicking on the album and I was floored! I had no clue I could do all editing in that one screen, I just fell in love with my Zune and it's software all over again

Default software update terrible for podcasts

I use to be able to download podcasts and they would sync beautifully but now I am finding duplicate and triplicates of the podcast, especially when I download an audio book. If any one knows the solution to this PLEASE HELP ME.

The new software was a lot better, but the pinkness and the new-style ratings really annoyed me to death . . . also, the lack of custom background support bugged me (although there is a hack for this).

I haven't updated my Zune's firmware out of paranoia that it might not be as good as the old firmware. Should I stick with the old stuff or should I take the risk and download the 2.5 firmware? What do you people that have 2.5 think?

SO much better than the iTunes software I just got rid of when I finally waved bye bye to my iPods. That's all I'm saying. Works for apple software, but unfortunately I use a PC these days, and I've got to say the 2.5 software rocks the world for me. I mean sure, it was a pain in the ass changing my libraries over, but once my library figured it out for itself, I had to do very little - I like that.

I don't know why you would hate it, but oh my god i love it so much. Amazingly easy to change the information and i don't think there's anything else that they could do to make it better.

I'd quite like some visualisation options, but that's just cause I like my gimmicks, you know?
