Angry Error 0x80070643

Well, my Zune is now completely useless. I purchased it a few months back, have enjoyed it (even though the software is slow and a memory hog). Last night I come home and try to update and am now getting this.

I've done everything I can find on MS's support site. I've even called support, and while I wasn't on hold long, it was a complete was of time. They said "MS knows about this issue and is trying to get a fix for it".

I've done everything on this list.
http://www.zunescene.mobi/forums/index.php?topic=6890.0

I've also turned off all firewalls and tried the following.

Sorry about that mate. My bets are on the zB team will come out with a hacked software so it installs better. Just like they did with the previous version. Wish I could be of more help, until then, download the old software, and use that.

In all honesty though, its just software, its not that cool. haha.

1) Where is the old software? When I try and install it using the original disc in the box it sees the update and downloads it.

2) I guess, however if I can't add any new songs to my MP3 player then the software is pretty important ... don't ya think?

If you disable your internet connection the CD installation will work.

I had a similar problem yesterday. After 90 minutes on the phone with tech support, we ended up downloading a MS program called "Windows Install Cleanup." I believe it erases the active program files so your computer doesnt think its there. Once I did that, the new version installed just fine. I believe I was getting the same error codes as you. PM me if you want more help.

I've tried that but done have any "Zune" software showing up that would need to be uninstalled.

I'm getting this error when trying to install update:

"Setup must stop because the required package 'Zune' failed to install.

Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personel.
Error code: 0x80070643"

Not sure what to do...

But nevermind it - I restarted my computer then tried the install and it worked!

hey im new here and was haveing the same problem but them someone on zune.nets forums posted this,

Alright guys! MyJules, a Zune Team Member on here, has been communicating with me and just sent me an email that fixed my install. I don't recommend this to anyone just yet who is not comfortable using regedit. Make a restore point before doing this. What you need to do is go here in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows\Installer

Then create a new DWORD value and name it:

DisableRollback

Then modify it to 1

close regedit and reboot.........install the zune software

Setup will still fail but it will NOT rollback. Check and see if you have zune files or not on your system. It should be in c:\Program Files\Zune

Then you can click on zune.exe in that folder. Now mine did come back up and say there was an update to 2.1 again and went back thru the install and error out, but it's installed and working.

After you have the software on and working, I was advised we should delete that registry key.

I really hope this works for you all that are having the 80070643 error and my sincere thanks to the Zune team members for their hard work!!!

THIS WORKS!! like i said beofre was having the same problem but now since i did this it installed, so i have the updated player and Zune firmware.

Enjoy everyone

Can I get step by step instructions, not very computer savvy, I purchased zune for my daughters Christmas present and I'm afraid if I can't get this software installed soon she will not get it for Christmas, and I only have 10 days left to return for refund.

Make a windows restore point before doing any of this*

1.Hit start and click run.
2.Next type regedit. A new window will open.
3.On the left side of the window you will see HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. click it
4.next click Software
5.then click Policies
6.then click Microsoft
7.then click Windows
8.then click Installer
9.will under the installer tab right click hit new then click DWORD
10. name it DisableRollback
11.after you have renamed it, right click it and hit modify.
12.A new window will open, where it says value data change it to 1.
13.after that close rededit and reboot your computer.
14.After you reboot install the Zune software. *note * you will still get the same error but it installs. If the new Zune icon is not on your desktop got to My computer\C: \Program Files\Zune and open up the Zune software from there. You can right click the icon copy and paste it as a shortcut to your desktop.
15.Once u have the Zune software up and running. Repeat steps 2-8 and delete DisableRollback

*I hope this helps you. If not let me know.
