Not sure if this the correct place to post this, but this is just a Wishlist accessory that I would love to see.
One of the very nice features of the Zune over the iPod is the fact that it has built in WiFi. It would be REALLY nice if there was a car adapter, similar to the ones you can get for the iPod, that connected up thru a WiFi connection instead of connecting directly to the device like all of the others do.
I know this would mean instead of keeping your Zune fully charged, it would just kill the battery quicker (playing music with WiFi turned on and in use). But it would be cool and I could simply keep my Zune in my bag. If the thing dies, then I could plug it into the car to charge it up.
Hopefully after someone figures out how to talk with the Zune thru WiFi we can start tossing together some DIY accessories for something like this.
That is a very cool idea actually, and considering your Zune will gladly share music with other Zunes, it shouldn't be that hard to make it share it's music with a wifi car adapter.
All you would need to do is make your Zune believe it is sending music to another Zune.
Easier said than done.
Then unfortunately, you would have to find a work around for the 3x3 rule...:-/
Cool idea, but unlikely to be seen anytime soon. Unfortunate. :-(
Yea, so there are two main hurdles before this can happen.
1. Figure out how to communicate with the Zune over WiFi, using the UPNP interface that people are saying it uses.
2. Then either randomly change the ID of the WiFi Car Adapter so that your Zune thinks it's send a song to a new device every time, or find a work around for the 3x3 rule.

I haven't heard about this UPNP interface, do you have any links to threads.
Also, I would imagine it would be easier/more convient to simply find a hack to the 3x3 rule.
Changing he ID of the adapter everytime would be a hassle.
Here's the thread I was reading, not much info yet, about the UPNP interface they believe MS is using. Nothing positive yet. You'll need to be a member of the Zuney.net Forums in order to see the link though, since it's in a members only section:
UPnP would make sense.
In fact, it makes a good deal of sense. UPnP AV can be used to "steam" video and audio, so that could easily be what Microsoft is using for the Zune.
I would imagine the Zune use a handshake like style approach for sending and receiving content. Encryption probably happens while the data is being received. Although it would be safer to encrypt the data before it is sent. One way or another, the data is being encrypted by one of the two Zune devices (if not both).
If you could disable the encryption, then you have a chance at disabling the 3x3 rule. Nonetheless, messing with the encryption might also screw up certain features. :-/
This could be a give or take, messy situation.
Ok, here's my dream scenario: a hardwired car kit (or at least one that keeps the thing charged and has decent fidelity) and my Zune detects my PC when I pull into my garage and it syncs new content that has appeared in my library.
I have a podcast catcher that updates every night and who knows what TV or music I might pull down over bittorrent. It would be nice not to have to bring my Zune in from my car ever.
