Unhappy New Zune earphones - the worst

Ok I've had my new Zune 120 for a week and I love the unit, am coping with the 3.0 glitches, but my biggest qualm is with the earphones. The sound quality from them is great but the design is not user friendly. In 1 week I have lost 2 of the 3 pairs of soft sponge covers. How MS could have designed something so poorly is beyond me. The slightest provocation and the soft covers are gone. If you're not paying attention they come loose when you simply take the earphones out of your ear.. Just had to bitch about this issue.

I got frustrated with mine too- got rid of the soft covers. The phones feel fine in my ear without them anyways.

I used the soft covers way back in 2007, but they got gummed up with wax real quick. I eventually lost them and didn't care. Just go spend $20-40 for a real nice pair.

I suggest that you go get some skull candies. If you like over the ear, then they've got some pretty sweet DJ ones. In-the ear are also good but they have the spongey things. Both give great quality and you should take some time to think about what headphones you want.

Default Foam covers are worthless

I used the foam covers for a little while and found that they just suck. They make the earbuds larger which makes it harder to get them to stay in my ears. Then I came across these “earbud adapters” called acoustibuds. I found them at a 3 on 3 basketball tournament. The sales guy was handing out free marketing samples so I took a pair. I have to say WOW. They fit in my ears and stay there but the most impressive thing is the sound quality. I couldn’t believe that my Zune ear buds could sound so good. I highly recommend picking up a set of these. I found them on Amazon.

Yeah those stupid foam things fall off when you just walk around with the earbuds in your hands. Though i admit, the sound is much better than i expected them to be, based on reviews online of the 120 headphones. I'm gonna try to find some nice noise canceling buds pretty soon so i can get maximum tune'age.

Thumbs down

Holy crap of craps! how can Microsoft drop the ball yet again by providing such shoddy headphones? I have the 80 gig Zune and the headphones in that package are far superior in comparison with the Zune 120. My headphones make a great seal and I don't need to crank the volume past 5 to have a pleasant listening experience. The comfort of these new headsphones leave much to be desired. I use my Zune when I ride my bicycle and have no problem with my headphones fitting snug and comfortable. My brother just got the new 120 and the headphones feel uncomfortable and slip off easly. The color coded sponges are the worst. It makes the product look cheap. Come on Microsoft! you guys make it very difficult to continue my hatred of Apple when you put out crap accesories likes these.

The Zune earbuds feel better without the covers on them. The earbuds that I really like are a pair made by Philips. I think this is the model number or something like that

WHAT is it with the Skull Candy fans? I've not heard that much GOOD reviews from the people I trust, and for about $10 you can get a nice pair of Sony H.ear's which are awesome. sound wonderful and just about never come off.. excellent audio frequency range (20hz to 20Khz) and AMAZING SNR & dB/mW. They're SO efficient that they ACTUALLY save battery life on my zune. (volume over 16 is usually so LOUD it hurts my head)

I, too, have lost the soft sponge on my earbuds. The sound quality is not too bad. I also have the premium headphones. The sound quality for those is excellent. I don't use them often though because they hurt my ears, and they do tend to fall out.

I know this is an oldish thread, but can't you buy something like Item #270302216261 on eBay??

Personally I really like the earbuds that came with the 120 and don't care for the premium ones at all. I found the premium earbuds to be very tinny to my ears and wish I didn't get the travel kit, even though I only paid $21 for it.
