Default Leather Case Recommendations Wanted - 80gb 2nd Gen

Well, I've spent a hour or two searching the web for a high quality leather case for my new 80gb 2nd generation Zune but haven't found exactly what I'd like. Was hoping for a DLO but it looks like they don't make one for the 80gb. Any recommendations would really be appreciated!

Ideally...

  • Black leather flip style
  • Freely rotating belt clip
  • Full access to controls and connectors
  • Non-scratch lining.
  • Under $35

TIA :-)
-Mike

I have the Microsoft case for the Zune 80. Here's how it matches up...

Black leather flip style... Its dark brown. It opens like a book and magnetically clasps closed. It slides out of the case on the inside. Its really easy to get in and out of the case, but secure when the headphones are plugged in or the case is closed. There is also a pocket on the inside that you could use to hold a business card, license, credit card... or other such thing.

Freely rotating belt clip... Does not have anything like this. Since I don't like clipping an expensive Zune to anything this is not an issue for me. I keep it in a pocket.

Full access to controls and connectors... You have access to everything except the syncing port. Which I don't mind since I hate having thing gunk it up.

Non-scratch lining... The lining is a nice and soft cloth.

Under $35... I got mine for $25.

The MS case has a nice understated elegance to it. It just plain classy and not trashy like so many other cases. My major gripe about the whole thing is the hot pink piping they put on the inside.

I doubt this will help you in your search, but it might... best of luck!

Edit: Maybe something like this: http://www.eforcity.com/dmstzunelc04.html

I was looking for the same thing, but could never find one that was cheep enough or in black, so when someone finds one I wanna know too!

After posting this I found this beauty, Incipio Z-137 Leather Flip Case for Zune 80 GB (Black) - eBay (item 380040631568 end time Aug-24-08 00:37:02 PDT), I wish I had found this before I finally settled for a clear case.

My lose is your gain.

honestly wouldnt a 30 gig case work too?

If you got a case bought from zunecentive and you had it on its the exact size of a zune 30 gig with protection so its not that much smaller,

I would buy locally so you can test out the leather cases found at some stores like staples, office max, best buy, circuit city, and etc etc.

They would be alot cheaper too, because since ppl think that zune 80 gig is alot better they need to jack up the price of the cases while the 30 gig cases are lower still.

Thanks for all the replies!

PoN, I'm not sure if a 30gb case would be snug enough. When I was looking at the 30 and 80gb models at Best Buy it seemed like the 30 had a larger profile. I'd like to buy the DLO 30gb case but I don't think anyone stocks them. Maybe I'll give them a call and ask how well it fits the 80gb Zune.

zetazot, I appreciate the rundown on the original MS case. It's a nice case for sure. The only prob (for me) is the belt clip. If I wear my player in the horizontal position it doesn't get pushed off my belt (by the seat) when I get in my car.

AceofSpades1005, thank for the link. That's a definite possibility! I also found a few more contenders on ebay. Sorry I can't post the URL's. I guess I need to post a few more times before links are allowed in this forum. Anyway, here are the item numbers.

With S&H, this one's not cheap but looks good and offers some versatility...
ebay item: 270256465124

These two look OK but the cheap price makes me wonder about the quality...
ebay item: 370075093449
ebay item: 160268333204

SilentWalrus, the custom ZuneOne case looks awesome! Thanks for heads up :-)

Dang, too many choices now... LOL!

Looking at that zuneone case, it looks really similar to the Incipio "leather" case I posted about (look up the thread I created) - exactly the same materials and almost the same design. Although I don't own it, the Proporta aluminum lined leather case truly oozes high quality. Just under your $35 budget.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about! I ordered the "Alu-Leather Zune 2G 80gb Case" (along with the optional mobile mount) directly from Proporta UK but USA shipping was only $5. I also foraged around for a discount checkout code, tried a bunch that didn't work, but finally hit with PASSITON10 which knocked 10% of the order. I'll post a review once it arrives. Thanks for the tip!!!
