Default [SOLVED] Zune Cases

What is the best to protect the screen from drops? I'm having to get a new zune as i dropped mine and it landed right on the screen, smashing the glass and the LCD underneath. I had an invisible shield on, great to stop scratches, but not this. So opinions please?

theres mainly no cases you can use to protect your zune completely.. i'll say go with silicon for shock absorbing.. but other than that.. zune 80 can't stand againist much drops since it can easily damage the hard drive its using..

Why not try the hard crystal case? I have one for my Zune 4, and I almost guarantee it wouldn't break the screen unless I intentionally tried. The pressure would be distributed to the sides of the case. Plus, the case is fairly rigid, so I imagine it would survive a drop.

However, runtohell brings up a good point about the hard drive being affected by drops that the Zune may even "survive".

Yeah I agree.
Get a Zune One crystal case and it probably won't break.

I've bought 2 cases for my zune one is a rubberish type material and the other is aluminum with like padding inside and built in screen protector. But i don't use either because the zune is so bulky(with the case it's even bigger). And my z30 has survived numerous falls, 2 of which were from a 6+ foot tall fridge, and a couple were from people tripping on the sync cable making it fly to the floor.

crystal case will crack from a drop or snap open and can damage your zune if so.

zune 30 and 80 is fragile if the drop does damage the hard drive. Hard Drive mp3 players are not meant for accident drops.. it can easily damage their hard drive and make it run slower or malfunction easy.

Yes I have, only lucky people with hard drive mp3 players don't break that easy, some of them are really fragile, easily damaging the hard drive itself and other parts of the zune/mp3 player.

I guess it depends on a lot of factors like what are you dropping it on and from what height.

I've only dropped it on carpet and tile. I doubt it would crack unless I threw it at cement. I could see it scratching though, but that's what it's for. It's an $8 case to protect against scratches and cracks. Plus, I have to work decently hard to get the face off that case. I'm not removing it much, but I highly doubt it would pop off upon dropping it.

Although the hard drive players are more fragile with the moving parts, the enclosings have come a long way. Most now have some sort of gel-type shock absorbtion system to prevent permanent damage. Of course, this would not help a lot against a toss against cement. Maybe someone knows if the Zune has a protection method to shut off the drive if it gets too much shock. If not, it would be a great addition. I know Lenovo (IBM) Thinkpad laptops have it.
