What does the FM transmitter do, exactly? Does it broadcast what your lstening to on the Zune? Does it take a lot of battery? It must not if it using the charging thingy.

It broadcasts your Zune via an FM signal to your car radio so you can hear whatever is playing on your Zune on the radio. The one that I have doubles as a car charger (as do most of them), so battery wear isn't really an issue for most of them. The only problem with them is that if you live in an area that has alot of FM radio stations, you might not be able to find one that you can use - a problem that I ran into today on my first try. I have two stations that work for about half of my commute and then at the half way mark, the two "empty" stations begin to pick up a broadcast from somewhere and thereby kills the Zune. I need something where I can just do a straight line in to my car stereo, maybe one of those cassette adaptors.....

Yeah, cassette adapters are probably pretty cheap now, my friend uses one with his Cd player in his car and it sounds fine. But what I wanna know is how was the performance of the FM broadcaster before the mod?

Whew, I certainly won't be doing that. With my luck, I'd destroy my Zune, the transmitter, and electrocute myself!

There's more chance that you'll burn your finger with the soldering iron, than electrocuting yourself :P

I have been using the FM transmitter (no mod), and I have found that when you plug it into the car charger while broadcasting it boosts your signal. This is the only FM transmitter I have been able to use in the city...I still get static from time to time but nothing horrible. The sound is good, and if you dont have a tape player this is definitely the way to go.

The mod does look interesting though.
