Default The best cheap headphones IMHO

Personally I don't like earbuds. They hurt my ears and lack bass. The Zune buds are better than most, but there's a small headphone I like much better. It's the Koss KSC75, which only costs fifteen bucks or so. The style is cover the ear clip-on. Some people find them hard to get seated right, but the sound quality is by far the best I've heard in any sub $100 headphone. They even beat my SONY VR-150 so-called "studio" headphones, hands down.

More like the second type. For a picture of them Google " KSC75 ".

The board won't let me post a link or photo yet cuz I'm a newb.

The bass blows the Zune original buds out of the water.

Sennheiser PMX60s are amazing headphones. They're around-the-neck flat cans with great dynamic and tonal range - and a great price. I highly recommend them.

Added the image to the first post for you.

They aren't the cheapest because there are so many more out there that are cheaper. But they may be good for you. I dislike these because you can still hear the outside sound.

Cheap headphones hurt my hearing (both literally and metaphorically). Anything except for high-end Sennheisers and Shures are terrible for anything except playing tug of war with your dog. When I'm in a studio or a relatively quiet room (like a Starbucks or something), I actually prefer open-air Sennheiser cans. As previously stated, I wouldn't recommend buying a $250 Zune only to spend $15 on some chinsey headphones. If you can afford a Zune, you can afford decent headphones.

What if I only spent $125 for my Zune 30? Should I then get some headphones for $7.50?? ;-)
Seriously, I know what you mean. Speakers are the most important part of any audio system. But I agree with Zunni that the Koss KSC75 is better than some headphones that cost much more.

Koss KSC75's are pretty highly regarded in terms of value, and there are mods out there to make them even better, they're not some crappy cheap headphones (Skillcandy's are, however, avoid them), there's nothing else in the price range comparable, you'd probably have to spend at least 3 times what they cost to match them. If you prefer canal phones, JVC Marshmallows are a good value. Ideally, you'd get some high quality phones, but if you're on a budget these 2 are good choices.

My fav cheapos are the Philips 5200 -- for $15 they provide 12-24,000Hz range and excellent comfort and quality.

I don't like those cheap over-ears. They leak too much sound.

Open phones leak sound by nature, inexpensive or not, that design is part of what makes them sound so good.

I reckon you're right. But for me they're not the best. I only use headphones (of anytype) either in school or on planes, both situations I try to keep the music to myself.

To each his own though, that's why there's more than one way to deliver sounds.

HipHop is correct, the open design ports the bass -- making it richer and more precise. That is why those Philips 5200s I recommended will outperform (more natural sound) earbuds costing 8-10Xs (that are more tinny).

If you can find the RPDH 1200's - GRAB THEM! They are the best budget headphones. These Technics 0wn hard. I wish I had mine...

Guitar Center often stocks they for between $80 - $130

Headphones costing $80 to $130 are a use of the word "budget" that is not familiar to me.
I only paid $125 for my Zune 30, so paying more than that for the phones? no way.
Besides the KSC75's which cost me I think $16, I also have a set of Philips HS520's which look just like the 5200's above. They are not bad for about $10 to $15.
Also have a set of SONY MDR-V150, which usually sell for around $20. They are enclosed cover-the-ear type, but nothing too great. Don't sound as good as the cheaper Koss KSC75.

I produce music, so that price range is well below what could be spent on headphones (budget monitors are probably 3 or 4 times that price :-/).

Well, you're in the music business. For the average Joe, spending that much on headphones is excessive. I see most people with iPods using the included headphones, even though they're horrible.
