I bought my Zune this week… I’ve noticed when listening to recorded music (not the radio) outside while walking, I sometimes hear a slight crackling noise. I do not hear this noise (the same song) when standing still or operating the unit indoors. Since the unit is new and the ear phone connection is sound, I would guess that there is some attenuation from the ear phone cabling. I do not know how well shielded this unit is. Has anyone experienced this issue?

It happens.. a connection in the headphones is loose i suggest returning the zune/headphones everything back to the retail store and swapping it for a new one.
