the other day i was playing sir-tet on my zune 80 and all the games reset the zune when you're done. my zune turned off but didnt turn back on. it was on a full charge and when i pushed the play button it wouldnt turn on. i used all the key combos except the hard delete ones and nothing worked. when i pushed play, the low/dead battery symbol popped up and faded out. i let it charge overnight but it never booted this morning. the charge symbol comes up when it's plugged in but it doesnt connect and never really charges. i have no clue what to do. i might try to delete all but i have music that i dont have a backup of. please help!

it plugs in but never actually says "connected" on the screen. i was going to try and see if it showed up in the software and maybe needed an update (doubt it it's on 2.5) but the software crashes when it opens. i use my friends laptop running vista (har har) but he's taking it back as i right this. hopefully my pc will be running again today or tomorrow. i cant un or reinstall cuz im on a guest account and it wont let me. has ne1 else had this problem?

Actually i have the same problem only that my battery ran out while watching a video and when i tried to recharge it the same happened. i think it is a manufacturing problem and zune.net says to either make the battery run out completely (the low battery icon no longer appears) and try recharging it again or leave it overnight, which you already did. i tried both and it didn't work, i don't care if i get everything erased since i can get it back when and if i get a new one but the problem is i no longer have the receipt and microsoft does not accept it for replacement without proof of purchase. i was wondering if replacing the battery would fix the problem but that nullifies the microsoft warranty. i'm really stuck on this one and i don't know what to do either.

this seems to be a common problem after the 2.5 update. my z80 does something similiar to that. the only solution i have found so far is to delete the firmware and downgrade to 2.3 until they release a more stable version. i'm in the process of doing this but its taking me forever mainly because my zune won't stay on long enough to charge. keep us updated if you try this, cheers.

Try the following:
I also have a zune 80! 1. Purchase a new charging cord and see if it will charge then! 2. Call the zune company at this number, the zune has a one year warranty on it: Assistance by phone seven days a week: 1-877-GET-ZUNE (438-9863) TTY (hearing impaired) 1-800-801-1189 Hours of operation (daily): 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. EST 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. PST 3. Make sure the hold button isn't on! 4. Just reformat your zune by doing this: How do I reformat my Zune player? Under rare circumstances you may need to reformat your player. (Typically you wouldn't do this unless directed to by Zune technical support.) First, press and hold the back (left) button and at the same time press and hold the "up" button on the control pad. The player will start to reset; as soon as it does, hold down the back button, center button, and right button at the same time. Your player will then inform you that it is deleting all media on device, and your Zune should revert to the "way it was" when you first pulled it out of the box - except that you will lose the pre-loaded content. There's no workaround for that one... yet! I Hope this helps! |

The problem with the reset is that since the battery is dead, it will not do anything if you press any buttons except tell you by the low battery full screen symbol. And at least for my case, i can't return it. i can try a new charging cord or buy a wall charger but i'm not too hopeful on that.

It is not a software problem. I tried uninstalling the zune and its software with no effect to the fact that the zune is not charging. Has anyone actually found a solution to this problem without sending it to Microsoft and also, would changing the battery work?

idkwtf happened. i just plugged it into my friends rear USB and it booted back up, full battery life. all my stuff is still there. i used the factory cord and everything, i guess it was in a temporary coma or something. anyone else with this problem should try this, but no guarantees.

I already tried plugging it into another USB source (xbox) but it didnt work and i wasnt expecting it to for any other computer. i tried with my office computer and it didnt work either so what happened at your friend's house is odd. i dont like this idea but it might work: you know that when you bought your zune you were able to turn it on right. so that means that if you change the battery with one that has a charge, you will be able to turn it on again, with the chance that it might happen again. This of course nullifies the warranty and that is the reason i havent tried it yet.

There doesn't seem to be any solution except sending it to microsoft so they repair it. They don't delete your information or anything so you wouldn't have to worry about that. No one seems to have solved this problem without changing the battery so there is really no other way. It'll take about 20 days to come back from repair but at least you'll have it working again instead of having a non-functioning $250 dollar piece of plastic glass and metal.
