I'm thinking of attempting to fix my zune by erasing the firmware and everything from it. So, do I simply do the key combination then plug it into software once the firmware is erased?

you do the key combo then the firmware is gone... then when you plug your zune back into the computer, open the zune software then it'll upload the firmware again.
