Default Collection software issues

OK, bear with me as I am fairly computer illiterate. I have the Zune 80 with version 2.3 software.

My Zune did something funky when I first synced it, so I wanted to just remove everything out of the collection software and start over. I cleared out the Zune. I then tried to delete all of the songs and/or albums out of the collection. I did this with all of the items in the collection, but they are all still listed. However, if I click on them, they give me the "Can't find the item. It may have been moved, renamed or deleted." How do I get them from being listed in the collection?????

Any help is very much appreciated, just remember that I am not so good with computers, so try to dummy it down for me! Thanks.
