Default Zune 80 problem

One day I turned on my Zune 80 and it seemed like the top portion of my screen was "popping out" and there was white spots that outlined the "popping out". Like 2 days later after noticing the screen like that, I see that the aluminum thing on the top back of the zune was pushed in. There was a huge gap between where the aluminum and the back of the zune met. Being impatient as I am and not wanting to damage the screen. I got some tools to try to pry out the aluminum part out to lessen the pressure on the screen.

The screen doesn't seem like it is "popping out" anymore, but the aluminum is still a bit pushed in. After doing this, the battery doesn't last at all. From testing it out, it seems like it dies a lot faster now when the backlit light is on (watching videos or just using the buttons in general).

I am thinking about sending the zune to microsoft to fix it. But I am afraid they might not repair it since I did use tools to try to pry it open and there are signs of it. Should I still send it to microsoft and explain it or ....try and fix it myself?

Well, for one, i know they wont fix it, considering you voided the warranty when opening it, and I don't know how understanding they will be with your situation
I mean you could call and ask if it's a possibility, otherwise you might have to try and fix it yourself

Eek, opening the Zune voids the warranty. Also, since this was most likely something that didn't happen on its own, it is not covered.

All I can recommend is that you do a hard reset(deletes firmware+content).

I never technically opened it up. I was just trying to get the aluminum part from pushing on the screen or whatever was pushing on it

Did you buy the zune at a store? If so, do you still have a warranty?
If so, I'm pretty sure you could get it fixed at the store
Also, since you didn't technically open the zune, then i guess calling Microsoft is still a possibility, but i mean, did you in any way, kinda open the zune?
If it's visible, they probably won't fix it

I got it for Christmas and pretty sure it is out of the warranty time (storewise). I absolutely did not open it up. I guess I should give them a call this coming weekday.
