VERSION OF ZUNE
====================== 80 Gig, just got it ![]() VERSION OF ZUNE SOFTWARE/FIRMWARE ===================================== I plugged in the Zune and it updated, so I would assume the most current firmware. Other than that I haven't messed with it yet. OPERATING SYSTEM ====================== XP Pro, I have a pretty badass machine. PROBLEM DESCRIPTION ======================= When I watch movies, the audio sounds like your head is in a well and someone is slowly pouring water inside... Best way I can describe it, haha. I was watching Live Free or Die Hard and I thought the audio was supposed to sound like that, it almost sounds cybernetic. I've tried to watch the Bourne Supremacy with the same problem. THINGS ATTEMPTED SO FAR =========================== Tried searching through oodles of threads, but haven't found anything yet. Honestly I'm a bit overwhelmed with the amount of stuff you guys have for this thing, but it's great! HAVE YOU SEARCHED ONLINE/ZUNEBOARDS TO FIND A SOLUTION? ================================================== ======== Yes HAVE YOU RECEIVED ANY ERROR MESSAGES? ======================================== No Error Messages ![]() |

Try using different headphones...could be a headphone problem. Or headphone jack could be lose.
Just try different headphones first. If the headphones aren't the reason why your getting the audio problem. Then try restarting your zune. To restart your zune press and hold the back button and up button at the same time.

When you were converting, what was the sample rate, bit-rate, and codec for the audio settings?
Could be rendered at lower quality by accident, then its an easy fix.

Audio Codec = wma7x
Bit Rate = 128 Sample Rate = 48000 Channels = 2 (Stereo) I'm using Xilisoft Video Converter to convert my movie files, but if there is something else I should or could be using, let me know. These are the standard settings when I fire up a movie to be converted. Also tried 3 different pairs of headphones and all of them sound the same >_< Last edited by Smith222 : 04-01-2008 at 08:52 AM. do you have mpeg4acc codec to choose from?
Everything else looks like it should be fine really. I don't know. Could try bumping the bit rate to 160 but 128 should sound good. Do you have another converter to try? Perhaps the initial rip was bad. Have you tried playing the .vob file in Power DVD or something to see if that copy was a good one? I am really not sure so I am spitting out possibilities. At worst, maybe the Zune has a problem, but I'd make sure to exhaust the software side first. It could be a connection problem in the audio plug well, the inside connecting to it I mean. If nothing works, try sending it in just to see what they say.

This has happened to me before as well. Seem the problem lies in directly converting from whatever format to wmv. Instead, first convert to mp4, then convert it to wmv. Otherwise, use a different converter.

No need to do two conversions, just convert to WMV in the first place.
