As far as I know no...but letting the lithium battery in your zune completely drain will damage it. But a quick tip if your zunes battery icon is green and your zune feels kind of warm/hot while it's charging. I suggest unplugging it and just turning it off completely, to conserve the charged battery. To do so press back and down at the same time, this will turn off your zune completely. Unlike just holding the play/pause button which will just put it in a "sleep mode".

i'm pretty sure its a no also.. since you know.. in stores.. they have it plug in 24/7.. if it the battery is compatible for overcharging.. it woulda exploded by now? lol so the answer is no it can't get over charged for sure. charging it for long straight hours.. doesn't effect it mainly... but the best choice is to just don't let it overcharge that much..

The zune keeps charge of how full the battery is, and automatically switches the current off when done charging. This is a definite no.

When zune's battery is fully charged, the zune does not automatically switches the current off. It does however disconnects the battery and runs on DC from the charger/computer when idleing. When the zune's harddrive spin up, the zune switch to battery powered.

Leaving the zune pluged in will not cause any problem unless there's a short inside the zune. The zune getting warm to the touch while charging is perfectly normal. If it gets hot to the touch, then that's not normal.

As far as I know, it's impossible to drain the zune's li-ion battery completely unless you short circuit it. There's an IC which prevent the zune from starting up when the zune's li-ion battery has discharge to a point before dammage to the battery will occor.

THe zune gives you a low battery warning quite a while before the zune actuallly shut off by itself.

first of all my zune dont have a harddrive so is it still the same?
secondly i usually dont worry about my zune being low battery cause i charge it everyday
And this bring me to a question... does your batter life last shorter if you charge it constantly? like everyday?

1) I don't have a zune 8 so i don't know if it's the same. I think zune 8's IC is a little bit different from the zune 30 and zune 80.
2) Your battery life will be shorter if you charge constantely. Your battery life will also be shorter if you charge once every 2 days. Your battery life will also become shorter if you don't charge the battery at all. The more you use your zune's battery, the shorter the battery life is going to be. li-ion battery's charge cycle is about 200-250times before it's battery life degrades to 75% of the original. Each charge cycle = the total energy measured in Mah drained or charged out of the zune's internal battery.

So Charging 750mAh of energy and the release 750mAh or Charging 2x 375mAh of energy then releasing 3x250mAh all equals 1 charge cycle.

With the information above, you can conclude that it doesn't matter how often you charge your zune, It's how much you charge your zune that counts.

THe answer to your 2nd question is that you'll loose the battery life of your li-ion no matter how often you charge. It's actually better to charge your zune whenever it's convenient because your zune should never run out of juice when you really need it.

I recently opened up my 30g black zune, and while bulding it back up something went wrong and it won't tun on, not even if I plug it to the pc. but if I connect it to the AC adapter it works. the only thing is that the batery Icon is not green, nor empty with the exclamation sign, but yellow. does anyone know what this yellow battery Icon means?

Thanks In advance for the information

I don't know if the zune can be overcharged or not. I'd like to know where some posters have received their answers from. My routine is to try to not charge my zune until it completely dies. It's worked fine for me in doing that. As far as if that's good or not or whether or not a zune can be overcharged, I'd love to hear from someone who has received anwers to these quesitons from someone at microsoft.
