Just got my Zune 80 two days ago and I like the device, but the Zune software sucks, especially since WMP11 has be serving my computer, my xbox, and my wife's Zen Vision:M for over a year. I am religious about tagging my files properly with an external tagging program and them moving them into my music archive, which is where I have WMP11 looking for my files.
I have been running some tests with the Zune to see what it does to my files. There is no way I am letting that software touch my archive. I tag all of my music with ver. 2 ID3 tags. For some unknown reason, the Zune software feels the need to add ver. 1 ID3 tags even though in the settings I told it NOT update my files. Is there some hidden setting for this? All of my stuff is properly tagged and I don't want the Zune software touching them. Thanks for the help. I am sure I will have some more questions. |

Set the software to guest mode.
Settings>Device> Forget this device

u can try syncing with wmp11 using zalternator
http://www.zuneboards.com/forums/com...lternator.html get a long video u dont want on ur zune, add it to the zune software, dont put any media in the software except for that video and when it syncs, open task manager(ctrl+alt+delete)and end task "zune" open up zalternator and follow those instructions in the link then use wmp11 hope this helps and good luck

But won't the Zune software still add the ID3 v.1 tag as soon as I copy a folder of music to the monitored folder? The Zune software was adding the ver. 1 tag even before I got the zune device. I don't think it is related to the Zune player.

I think my best bet might just to copy my entire music archive to another drive on my computer and let the Zune software have it's way with those files. That way I still maintain my master copy of my archive without the Zune software getting its claws on it. |
