Default [SOLVED] Zune 80 Question - Hardrive

I have been wondering to buy a Zune 80 for a damn long time now, now that I finally bugged my parents to let me get one (with my money ofcourse) they looked at it and relised its a hardrive mp3 player. They started arguing with me which is fair enough because a few years ago I had a 30gb chunky piece of crap that I dropped once and never worked again!

Anyway! I want to fight back at my parents and wondering if anybody could tell me if they have made hardrive MP3 players more stable like the Zune, so that if I drop it while walking from mabey 20 centimeters it will still work fine just with scratches.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i'll say that even if you drop a zune, it won't break that easy.. you were just unlucky with yours... the hard drive seems to be very stable... from what i heard... dropping a few time.. the zune should still work without much scratch on it also.. since most zunes are like scratch resistant now..

If you drop the zune from 5 feet or 1.5M on solid concrete... there will be no scratch and the zune won't break.

The harddrive in the zune is rated for ~200G while it's operating and maybe ~800G while the harddrive is off. Most of the time, the harddrive in the zune won't even turn on during regular use.

Zune 80 is basically a 40MB of flash player + 80GB of harddrive player.

The zune first loads 40 mb of media into the flash chip. This takes about 5 seconds max and the harddrive will be turned off after it's done transfering the 40MB of data.

For the next 20 minutes, your zune will play music or media from the flash chip.
So there's one in 240 chances that you might drop your zune when the harddrive is spinning and more vulnerable to shock. This probablility is pretty slim thus you don't have to worry about it.
