Default System updates required – Error can’t install software

As mentioned I cant install the software. I am an getting the Error “System updates required”.

Now I’ll be accessing my zune mostly from my workplace and I simply cant update any PC’s over there (and I’ll be using multiple Pc’s). So now I would like to manually update only the things tht zune software requires.

I want anybody to please point out “Exactly what updates” zune is searching and I can manually download it.

OS: XP SP2, Media Player 11, IE7, .Net Framework 2.0

Enable Windows Update and see if there is anything you need. That, .NET Framework 2.0, and the newest version of Windows Installer are needed to install the Zune Software.

I know because I've run into this problem many times.

You also need the newest Window Update Agent. the filename is "WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe". I ran into some issue with installing the Zune software on an off-line pc as well, and this particular update is what made me chase my tail for a few hours.

It's looking for updates for the zune software, at the moment the latest zune software version is 2.3.1338.0
Just make sure you've checked for updates with windows update and you should be fine.

1.Download it here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=91237
2. Click Start, click Run, click Browse, locate the file that you saved in step 1, and then click Open.
3. Click Run.

The moment i installed the agent, and Client everything ran just great...

SO THX A LoT ! -- I was finding it difficult to install the software for quite a long time now, and nobody was trying to even help in a direct and proper way.

I really thank-you to provide the link and posting to the point information.

Well,
You can access option to update your Xp, Right-Click --> properties --> Automatic updates.... Then why to install this updateagent ?

Even when "Automatic Updates" Is turned off ? The updateagent overrides it ?

And the main thing - Does it transmit comp. data to microsoft.

How to uninstall this agent ?

Where is the preferences of this agent so tht i can select, when to download updates, never to download updates etc...

The update agent is just the newer engine MS uses for its automatic updates (both to download and install the updates), if you have them turned on. The first time you run windows update from a fresh install, that is the first thing that is downloaded and installed before anything else can be. I assume it is also used by the Zune installer as the install agent, which is why it is required. To my knowledge, it doesn't transmit to MS if you have updates turned off, but either way, it's not anything to be paranoid over either. I know of plenty of folks who have "unpurchased" windows and don't have any problems.
