Default zune 80gb synching questions

Just bought my brother an 80Gb Zune per his request.
He is a week away from graduating Marines boot camp, and he wants all his music with him the moment he's free! Anyhow I picked this one up last night and my goal is to import all of his and my music onto his new player.

My computer is down so I am using the family PC, all the music is on an external USB2.0 harddrive. Last night when I started the synching process, I set the program to load only from the 2 folders from the external harddrive. There's 46Gb of music, and for some reason the Zune turned off before the synch could complete.

My main question, aside from basic user knowledge from the lack of paper accompanying the product, is: if I click "STOP SYNCH" will all the information BEFORE the button was clicked stay on the Zune? It's a lot of music, and I've been at this almost 3 hours and I'm just hitting the 48% marker.

Thanks!

Your best bet is to open up task manager and end the process.

CTRL+ALT+DELETE, find zune.exe, click end process, then yes. Nothing should be deleted.

Note: I am 99% sure nothing will be deleted off the device.

Yes, only if you delete them from the computer or delete them off the device OR mark them as don't sync with device will they be automatically removed. Otherwise, it will pick up where you left off.

Hmm... I'm reluctant to try this method considering the fact that everything SEEMS to be going alright. I keep refreshing the screen on the Zune so nothing will shut off, and it's connected to a 4-port usb router with direct AC power to it, so it's stayed juiced up.

Still, it would be nice to know I have that safety net of not wasting the 3+ hours I've been waiting IF something goes haywire from here. At least then I'd only have another 3 hour wait versus this huge long wait again.

well, if it shuts off again, try getting zalternator, ending the process during sync and then open zalternator and sync using wmp or whatever alternate media software u use, this cud be a problem with ur software
zalternator-http://www.zuneboards.com/forums/com...tml#post124425
or using the hdd hack, u cud end the process and copy the files through folders
hdd-hack-http://www.zuneboards.com/forums/zto...tch-4-0-a.html
good luck, hope this helps

The Zune device does not work with USB hubs, that may be your problem.

Thanks everyone, I'm hesitant to click the button when this system is seemingly working, but I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the Zune for my brother. If you all say that the "STOP SYNCH" button will keep everything already synched on it, then I trust you!

Another question dealing with synching: what exactly is the extra "reserved space and content from other computers" allocation?
