VERSION OF ZUNE
====================== Zune 80 Gig VERSION OF ZUNE SOFTWARE/FIRMWARE ===================================== 2.3, whatever is the most current. OPERATING SYSTEM ====================== Windows XP SP2 PROBLEM DESCRIPTION ======================= I purchased the 80 Gig zune yesterday, and I'm having problems with my music transferring onto the zune. All of my music does show up in the collection, with some listed as Various Artists or Unknown regardless of how many times I've reworked the meta-data, there is not the full amount of artists listed on my Zune. I have 343 artists listed on my collection, but only 131 on my zune device, but with a matching number of songs. I've already reset my library, retagged all of my music and reuploaded, and I have no idea how to fix this. I also have that massive album problem, where there are way too many albums created. THINGS ATTEMPTED SO FAR =========================== I have mp3Tag installed, and I've made sure each song has the proper title, artist, albums and whatnot. I'm not sure of the exact ID3v* settings, as different people have suggested different ones. I've also reset my library, emptied my zune and attempted to reupload. HAVE YOU SEARCHED ONLINE/ZUNEBOARDS TO FIND A SOLUTION? ================================================== ======== I've been searching on forums most of the day, working for quite a few hours to get the thing to work correctly. HAVE YOU RECEIVED ANY ERROR MESSAGES? ======================================== I haven't gotten any error messages, just the lack of artists. ATTACHMENTS ==================== ![]() ![]() |

I just unchecked automatically update album, and what should I be looking for with the meta-data? Should I be editing it within the Zune software, or should I be using MP3Tag.
Also, what should I have the ID3v2 set to? Example of problem: I have 9 Motorhead songs, all of which appear properly in the Collection. They have Motorhead listed as the artist, and the album artist. But on my Zune, they are not displayed on the artists at all, even though the songs individually are there under the song menu. |

Simple fix, do a hard reset on the device, then resynch everything.

only do that if your device has doubles of something that you can't delete through the software. I recommend using wmp11 to update all of your album information. Then open the zune software and delete your whole library. Sync your zune so you have nothing on that too. So now that your zune device and software are empty, you should add all of your fully updated (with wmp11) to the software. Then sync and hope for the best. Sometimes it takes both wmp11 and the zune software to actually show the new meta data (no album art, or just not updating at all) just leave the software open for a while and it might switch on you. Sometimes restarting your computer works, and sometimes closing the software works. It's just a bit temperamental, but you can keep trying. You might find yourself updating the same crap over and over again in wmp11 just to get it to show the updated information. Sometimes this works, other times it just wastes time. If push comes to shove and wmp11 won't automatically update your album information, right click and change the media information manually, then find the art on google and paste it on the software. Just don't waste your time trying to update the info with the zune software... it's tedious and pretty time consuming, just a much more difficult process than using wmp11.

Use the key combo to delete the firmware+all content, then resynch.
David, I think it should work.

So using WMP11 should solve my Artists not showing up, I'm not as concerned about improper albums as I am about not having all of my artists showing up.
But I'm installing WMP11 right now, and erasing my libraries. |

just right click all the songs that show improper meta data (stuff that says unknown on anything, or without album art) then go to find album information. A window will pop up and you'll be able to select which song/album your have. The information usually changes instantly, the art however takes a bit of work. Anyway, yes it will fix your artist problem.

Well in intrest of not deleting everything off of my Zune I will try the WMP11 approach first, seeing as how the button combination for deleting everything wasn't working for me anyway.
I'll let you know if everything is fixed. |

remove everything off your zune anyway. It really won't hurt to reformat your zune, it fixes a lot of problems, some you might not know you have
![]() just don't do it now. after you remove all the songs in your library, your zune should be empty as well. if it's not, then reformat it.

The key combo needs to be done at startup of the device.

the reason for doing the hard reset is to save you some time. It's faster to format the hdd than deleting every song off the zune.
Delete all your content from zune software library. Drag and drop your content from your harddrive back to zune software. Resync. The zune software should remove your old songs and sync the correct new one on. ![]() |

After hard resetting my Zune, emptying my library, installing WMP11, resynching everything, I have a whopping 142 artists, as opposed to the 131 I had last time.
Apparently none of that really worked....any other ideas? |

Did you update the albums in WMP 11?

The WMP11 album thing didn't do much, especially when some tracks don't belong to any album in particular. I'm probably not doing that correctly, it brings up a search for an album box, but half of the files don't belong to an any particular album. Is there just a way to unassociate it from an album?
I'm posting a picture of my meta-data information, hopefully you can steer me in the right direction. ![]() |

I can't even seem to get Motorhead recognized on the Zune regardless of what I do. I've changed the tags around multiple times, and it will not become an artist.
What should I set my file tags to, someone who has a working zune should tell me how they did it .Also, every once in a while the amount of artists spikes up, it's at 186 now, but nowhere close to the 300+ I should have... Is the software really this finicky? |

Hey I am having the same problem and I realized that if you do not have them under a real album (For example, if it is from a mixed cd) than it will all show up under one artist or it will show up under unknown. I recommend changing the album name and filling in as much info as possible, try that.
Hope I helped.![]() |
