HELP! Zune "popped" and wont power on!

I just plugged in my zune to an FM transmitter.
I played a movie and turned the volume up to 20
and all of a sudden it made a pop noise and the screen flickered on and off and shut down.

now it wont turn on.
the computer doesnt recognize it
and i cant get anything from it.

HELP!?!?

the zune is new.
80 gb.
i got it from newegg and have had it for a short time.

what do it do?

hmm... seems like your zune might be dead.. ask newegg for a refund or call microsoft/zune 877-get-zune

First of all, if you're using an FM transmitter you can't control the volume through the device. Unless it plugs in to the headphones jack?

but if i send it back and it has pirated files on it, then what happens?

it wont connect to the computer or anything. so i cant delete it before i send it out

and none of the key combinations are working.

so would they be able to notify someone cough cough RIAAandMPAA cough cough and bust me?

If you can't get it to turn on then chances are they can't either. It sounds like something shorted in it. Besides, how would would they know it was pirated?

And no, I doubt they would bust you.

Try to get a refund, a replacement, or call M$ and see if they can do anything. If you do, to make sure you get a replacement Zune like you deserve, say it was broken out of the box or they will try to BS you so you don't get a new Zune.

Sue MS for the pop sound for ear damage and use that money to get a new zune? LOL, jk.

Maybe there's a short circuit with zune's DAC.

It happened to me today too. I plugged my A\V cable to the mini-jack and the RCA to a Video-out instead of video-in, and it just died. doesn't respond to anything and computer doesn't recognize it is even connected.. So i just gave it today to the store where i bought it. they are going to run a check in their labs and then decide if i should get a new one or if they can fix this one.

they said they'll fix it or replace it..
theyre sending me a box to mail it to them.
you can call 1-877-GET-ZUNE if the store doesnt give you a refund.

i hope it works out for the both of us mann.
im gunna miss my zune for those 15 days to repair it.

thanks but im not from the states, and the store i bought it from are the official importers of Zune products. I guess they will fix/replace it with no probs.

I think microsoft gave up on the idea to sell only in the US. But, they haven't upgrade the firmware yet so the zune could support pal TV systems. I hope they will in the future.

All I can suggest is get a refund or a replacement. If you're scared they'll bust you for your pirated music, don't be. They'll most definently wont care that it is, plus how will they know???? Just get a refund buy a new or get a replacement one.

Looks like this could be a common problem with the Zune 80. I was trying to use the TV out feature and plug my Zune in to my TV the other day and the battery indicator went completely red and then the unit died. Now it won't recharge at all. Must be a short circuit or something. Nuclear-Soda, let me know what they did to your unit when you took it in. By the way I was sure to connect the cable to the Video In jacks on the TV so I don't think your use of the video out connections was the problem but who knows. Let me know.

Did the pop come from the actual zune, or the headphone jack? Hope they can help you though. My 80 just died on me the other day, finally got i working again. Make sure that it isn't showing the charging symbol without the backlight. That is exactly what happened to me. Some static caused it to die, and it wouldn't go back on. I pluged it in and got nothing. I tried plugging it in later and noticed a very faint charging sign so i let is sit for about 30 mins before it came back on. I was happy. I don't like microsofts tech support, cant understand em.

Must be a short circuit or something. Nuclear-Soda, let me know what they did to your unit when you took it in. By the way I was sure to connect the cable to the Video In jacks on the TV so I don't think your use of the video out connections was the problem but who knows. Let me know.
