no matter what.. it should be hard to get dust out of the zune, unless you know how to open it..

i have the EXACT same problem i posted a thread around a week after i got it. every one seams to be saying the same thing. i told Microsoft the same thing i told every one here. "never dropped it, never put pressure on the screen, and rarely had it in my pocket" and the guy just told me that as of now they are not suporting a trade-in for that type of problem. sure you can still see picture and so on but the fact is that its annoying when the sun hits the nice big glass that that the zune 80 gives and there are 80,000 lil dust particals. trust me i know how you feel. i wish they would let you trade it in.

I have the same problem in the bottom left corner of my screen and intended to wait a little longer before calling Microsoft about getting my Zune Original replaced so that they could work out the issue.
I'll try to post a picture of it, but with the shiny glass it's going to be hard to get a good picture. If it turns out that they aren't fixing this issue we should raise hell because it's a production flaw and needs to be fixed. ![]() |

Go to Staples and get a can of compressed air, it works wonders.

Ive had this multiple times. Just seems to dissappear after a few days of use though. Its because the glass isn't exactly centered in the fram so there are microsopic holes down one side. Its nothing worth taking your zune apart for. Also yes a screen cover does help, just make sure it is exactly up to the edges.

You should open up your zune if your warranty is up.
Here's a guide on how to open zune 30 http://www.rapidrepair.com/guides/zu...emblyguide.htm Here's a guide on how to open zune 80 http://www.rapidrepair.com/guides/zu...part-Guide.htm Here's a guide on how to open zune 8 and zune 4 http://www.rapidrepair.com/guides/zu...part-Guide.htm After you take the actual LCD screen out follow these steps: 1) Get a can of compressed air or a full breath of air from yourself 2) Blow the dust off the lcd screen 3) Blow the dust off the inside glass cover 4) Reassemble the zune ![]() |

I'm really bummed out about it too, since it only seems to get worse.
Heres a picture of my growing dust problem: ![]() I called Zune support and a very helpful phone tech named Chris took my name and phone number. I specifically told them that there was a dent in the back of my zune and they assured me it wouldn't be a problem. After explaining the problem, they told me that they'd never heard of a problem like mine but they would be happy to service the unit. So, a few days later I got my shipping box and shipped my Zune off to the service center. Let me tell you guys something, these people take FOREVER to do anything. My Zune arrived at the service center around February 22nd, and I didn't get it back until March 8th. That means it set on a shelf for almost two weeks! During this long wait I called about 2-3 times requesting details on the status of my Zune, but each time the outsourced tech support could tell me nothing. When I got my Zune back I was appalled to discover that my unit hadn't even been fixed. It was rejected because of a dent that I specifically told them about. In the box was a carefully worded letter describing that it was "uneconomic" to repair my Zune. ![]() I would also like to point out that the shipping process also made the dust a bit worse, but I don't have any pictures to compare. At this point, I decided to give Zune support another call for an explanation. I explained the situation and all they would do was apologize that I was erroneously told that the dent would be ignored. In fact, they told me that the dent completely voided my warranty. They also explained that they had no way to contact the service center and tell them to make an exception. I requested the manager, but this is what he told me: Quote:

Dang jack that sucks...feel bad for you and all the people with dust under the screen. I actually had dust under my screen aswell. My first mp3 player my zune 80 had dust under the top middle part of the screen. And as you my fellow dust under screen zuners know it's f*cking annoying!! Especially when the sun hit's your zune's screen just right when the backlight is off. It ruins the nice big screen on the zune 80. So you know what I did... I returned my zune, asked my aunt who gave it to me for xmas to return it an get credit back from amazon(where she bought it) and then bought a new one. Bought a black zune 80 original, should of bought one off Walmart or a store with a good warranty plan so I could get a new one if anything happens in the future but what ever. I have a zune 80 now with no dust so everything is all good.

hmmm i have a idea for a way to not get dust in but it's kinda stupid. u know those plastic wrapper thingy u put on top of a bowl or something? u can rip it and stuff and it's sticky. just wrap those thing around your zune and that should prevent dust from getting in xD

I would be BEYOND upset. I don't even like regular smudges. Getting dust under my screen would drive me insane. I really hope you guys figure out a way to fix this.
