You just said what mine said to do but more elaborate. And on the pad sometimes the buttons get stuck so it could be center or left I suppose. Bottom line, there's always a way to make it work.

so, holding right, center and back is just like formating it? You can put the files back on it after, right?

I have an 80gb and want to delete all music only, but not software/firmware. Forgive my ignorance, but it seems the center and right buttons can't be pressed at the same time since they're both part of the 'wheel'. How do I actually press "Back + Center + Right" all at once?

Can I delete all songs via the software? Following is from article 929184 at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929184/en-us, though think I've read that sometimes deleting files via software may not work.

Most files that you remove from your Zune device can be restored from your collection when you sync the device. However, you cannot restore files that are preloaded on the device.

Note Except for the contents of the Inbox, you cannot use the Zune device interface to remove files from the device.

To remove a file from the Zune device, follow these steps:

1. Start the Zune software, and then connect your Zune device to the computer.

2. In the menu, click device, and then select music, playlists, videos, pictures, or podcasts, as appropriate.

3. Locate and then right-click the file(s) that you want to delete. Then, click Delete from <device name>.

4. Click OK to confirm the deletion.

5. Disconnect your Zune device from the computer when the synchronization is completed.

If you delete a file that is part of a synchronized playlist from your Zune device, the Zune software will skip that file the next time that you sync the device. Therefore, the deleted song, video, or picture will no longer appear on the Zune device.

Note You cannot delete individual items from a playlist in the device view. You should use the collection > playlists option to manage the contents of your playlist, and then synchronize the new playlist to your Zune device.

Maybe try the button combo's just for the 80. They have a higher success rate. (and don't double post, it's bad....just edit)

Back+Center+Right does not delete anything on the Zune 80 gb. It's still unclear exactly how you press Center+Right at the same time on the 80 gb, but any combination of these buttons being pressed does nothing.

Sleep mode will just put it to sleep and it will continue your song where you left off and whatnot. Deep sleep mode is turning it off completely.

They work they're just hard to do (I've done them myself). But that's why there are combinations just for the 80.

You tried holding back + play? (that usually always works)

And for EVERYBODY, saying button combos aren't working. Are you even doing them on the correct screen?

Your supposed to be on the ZUNE screen when you press the combinations. But that would probably help some people, I edited the first post.
