Default Please help me... I'm desperate.

PC specs:
Windows XP SP2
Intel P4 3.2 GHz CPU
2 GB of RAM
1.3TB total HD space on 7 drives, with about 60% free space
1 front side and 8 back side USB 2.0 ports.

I've recently been working a boatload of overtime, so I haven't used my Zune in a month or so. It was working perfectly the last time I used it.

Three days ago I plugged the Zune in to my PC to load some new tracks on it, and it didn't work right.

When I plug in the Zune using the USB cable, the PC plays the "USB Device Connected" sound, and less than a second later, it plays the "USB Device Disconnected" sound. It then proceeds to repeat the two sounds, finding and then instantly disconnecting, until I disconnect the Zune cable from the PC.

I left it doing that yesterday morning, and when I got home 11 hours later it was still playing the two USB device sounds.

The Zune display indicates the internal battery is fully charged.

I can use the Zune itself normally (while it isn't connected to the PC, of course).

I have plugged the Zune into every USB port on my PC, and it does the same thing on each one. That includes disconnecting properly operating USB hardware (mouse, joystick, etc) and trying the Zune on those ports, but it makes no difference.

I have followed the steps provided at Microsoft.com to completely remove the Zune and the Zune software. I then reinstalled the software. Twice. Same problem.

I have reset the Zune several times. Same problem.

I have rebooted the PC multiple times. Same problem.

Does anyone have any idea at all what the problem might be?

thanks

Sounds like it's a USB problem to me. Mine does that on occasion, and my USB ports are all screwed up. Might wanna take it to the local computer store and have it checked.

The same thing happened to me. For some odd reason though, it just started working out of nowhere. Wierd.

Yer, i would think its a USB problem, because i had many USB problems before, where all my front USB ports just decided to stop working, thus stopping me from charging my zune without taking a keyboard or mouse out. Then they just started workilng, so i dont really know what to suggest.

I'm having the same problem. I also keep getting an error message that says "Zune software encountered an error while synchronizing to the zune device."
I bought mine used and it worked fine the first few days but now it's doing this crap. As with geekboy mine will charge but won't stay connected (synced).
My guess is it may be the USB cable. Right now I'm going to try it on another computer. I'll let you know what happens.

I got mine working again. I think the problem was the hard drive was full. Try stopping the synchronizing process then delete some files from your zune.
I also suspect it may have become stable after the battery was fully charged. Then again when I bought it the battery was low and I had no problems.

I really don't know, but there's a couple suggestions for you.

I think trying it on a different computer is the best thing to do... It'll help you isolate the problem being either with the pc, or zune.

I am having the same problem... Called tech support like Ace suggested and he asked me to install it on another computer. Tried it on my laptop and it started to do that usb sound thing again. So the guy said they'll just send me a knew one.

Good, sounds like you need a new one anyway.

Got it working! Lib32 USB Driver for the CVS camcorder hack was corrupting my USB drivers. Uninstalled it and the Zune works like a charm :-)
