Default Get the most of your Battery

seeing as how many people go round in circles tryin to figuer out how to get the most out of their ZUNE they forget one vital thing to the whole idea of portable music. As a result i have taken it uporn myself to bring people back to ground level. We all love it when a new crack or mod comes out but we wouldn' be able to use them (or show em off @ parties(sad.. iknow) the main Reason most of us do these things) if the ZUNE was a dead brick or you couldn show it off unless you carried a carger in ur other pocket. So i vouch to give @ least one peice of advise about how to keep you Zune breathing. First off here are the FIVE golden (proven) commandments to follow if you dont want to send you zune to hell (flashing is the most apropriate method if you have a brown zune)

1. DO NOT leave your zune on the charger for more than 2Hours. This exhausts the battery though every precaution has been made to prevent the effects of this it still significantly reduces your battery life.

2.Make playlists!! these prove invaluable as skipping is another main reason for reduced battery life. Jogging keeps the HDD active which drains the battery

3.Leave your zune software (without the zune connected) running over night at least once every week adjust to more frequent depending on howoften you download movies. movies take time to convert (more than 2hours) leaving your computer idle over night gives the zune software a chance to convert large movies. This reduces the time you have to leave the zune syncing. therefore following commandment 1.

4.Switch off your Zune. When not in use for extended periods of time press the back and down buttons for 2 sec to switch off the Zune this will COMPLETELY switch off the zune. as the zune features RAM memory for the buffer the RAM takes up quite a bit of battery power (over those nights you sleepy uneasy looking forward to your road tomorrow biased your zune is fully charged). READ RULE 5!!!

5.DO NOT be mislead by Rule 4. it is only effective for extended periods of time ie weekend away from your loved one(zune) or over night. DO NOT switch off power when answering a phone call (pitty the didn include a phone with the Thing, Damn iPHONE). Powering it on takes power as the drive needs to spin up (not as much as leaving it on stand by over 8 hours) switchin the power off during short perios of time means the drive spines up more frequently cripling your battery.

Follow these rules to the letter and you WILL be surprised by the eventual performance boost PROMISE.

P.S show a brother some love gt my rep up more rep more usefull tips (u can actually use) i'll give out.

Well, I had placed it somewhere, but I'm not that sure if keeping it full as much as possible is better than the old way batteries with memory which needed to be fully emptied and fully charged, so what's better, almost always full, or almost every time let it go flat?

It's always best to let it go flat constantly rechraging the zune is simmilar to leaving it on the charger it exhausts the battery. *note the battery indicator some times appears really low but if you pay attention at it & time, it acctualy stays at that level for quite some time so you my be fooled to recharge your zune when you have @ least 2hrs or more still left in the battery(provided you don't Jogg **read RULE 2.)

Good stuff....thanks for the post

However I have 1 thing to argue. I have returned 2 zunes for battery issues and I was told by several zune technical support team members that leaving it charging overnight WILL NOT cause a loss in battery life. They said it has some type of cut off where it will charge until it is fully charged and once it notices any severe drain it will begin charging again. I will see if I can find one of the emails I received.

So...... nothing will happen if I let my Zune more than 2 days with the charger?? I find this post above somewhat convincing but I don't know about battery stuff so if someone could please tell me if this is true. Because it sounds quite obvious that it will stop charging when it finishes but I don't know how's the Zune battery. XD.

Thanks in advance!

as i had written before in the RULES.. manufacturer (toshiba) took every precaution to protect the battery. this includes stopping (or at least trying to stop) the effects of leaving your zune on the charger for extended periods of time. None the less the effects of leaving ur zune charging ARE detrimental. The constant charging and discharging of ur zune lead to the wear of your battery will eventualy to lead to reduced life time.

Not verified...but should help to save battery life:

1) Set your Display Brightness to "Low."
2) Set your Display Backlight to turn off after a short period of time, i.e. 1 second. If you're scrolling through menus or watching a video this won't affect anything, but it will make the screen stay off more while your Zune is inactive.
3) If you're going to be listening to music for extended periods of time, but not scrolling through any menus, consider setting your Zune to TV Out mode. This will turn the screen off, while still sending your music through your headphones.

batteries eventually wear out... there's usually built in circuitry that prevents overcharging.. not sure if the zune has this..
