Exclamation Back to Rock You

hey guys prince is back sry i hadn' posted for a while had been blocked i admit it was my fault (wasn realy clear on the meanin of spamming) wont happen agen... again im sorry. and to make it up more here is more advise :

i know one of the reasons for buyin all yo zunes (hurray for those hu chose brown) was to get to see videos on a large screen...
be warned hopping you havent been as ignorant as not to have noticed it eats up chunks off yours batt.
there are two ways to resolve this one is buy stayingaway from movies all together or, reducing movie quality.

as most of us know rather than constantly spinning the zune saves batt by putting your media in the ram. this works fine so long as the media is small enought to fit into the ram. but what happens when it is larger(which videos most likey is). well the zune refilles the ram once the media in the ram is not in use (u've listed the the section of music, or watched a scene of video) then spines the hdd up agen to refill the ram with the following scene. videos are much bigger and have greater bit rates meaning the ram will have to fill up more often. reducing the quality of the vid will reduce the bit rate and the size of the vid altogether meaning the hdd spines up less often and a fewer number of times.

so let me get this straight, even if you turn the zune off completely and then charge it and leave it plugged in, it will still be bad to the battery. something just doesnt make any sense to me unless the battery leaks power constantly.

also do they sell replacement after market zune batteries yet?

Never, ever , ever (ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever) discharge a Li-ion battery all the way. if you store them, you should keep them at 40% capacity in a cool place.

this table if from batteryuniversity.com and shows the correlation to storage amount related to storage temperature.

Storage Temperature 40% Charge 100% Charge
0 °C (32 °F) 2% loss after 1 year 6% loss after 1 year
25 °C (77 °F) 4% loss after 1 year 20% loss after 1 year
40 °C (104 °F) 15% loss after 1 year 35% loss after 1 year
60 °C (140 °F) 25% loss after 1 year 40% loss after 3 months

hope that helps a bit.

replacement batterys are already being sold. the ads show that they last longer (not verified) than the standard batt. not advisable to take your zune apart tho as you may cause serious damage. dont do it unless you have taken apart a comp before or something along those lines (get familiarised with the inards of gadgets...

site to get the batt..

well i wasnt going to just go and replace the battery for no reason, and yes i know my way around electronics fairly well... i have built an eprom programmer, portable nes, numerous computer, and a slew of other things. how many mAh is the battery that comes stock in the zune?

edit: it is 800mAh, that replacement is only 850 mAh... not too much of an increase. Someone needs to make a 1000 mAh battery

no offense taken and i didnt mean to sound rude, just wanted to point out that i do know quite a bit about mucking around in things. I really want to try to make my zune solid state, but dont want to do it till the warranty is up.

Good post, Number 4. is a very handy technique which i have started to use before i go to sleep and its probably helping to keep an extra 1/8th of the battery, that would normally be lost by the next day. Thanks man.

Default may be a dumb question

i know you can shutdown the zune by holding down and back and that will save the battery...
but what does the holding play thing do
it turns off my screen the hardrive seems to stop spinning and i leave the hold switch on and when i put the hold switch back it lights up the screen...
what is this and does it drain the battery more then the shutoff?

Holding the play/pause button shuts the zune off. But when u resume it, it resumes faster than it wuld if u had held the back and down button.

What did you mean by "1. DO NOT leave your zune on the charger for more than 2Hours. This exhausts the battery though every precaution has been made to prevent the effects of this it still significantly reduces your battery life." are you saying that if I leave my zune conected for more than 2hours the permanent battery life will go down? Does it damage the battery to leave it connected for more than two hours?

right like i sed before you should completely switch zune off holding down the play/pause button puts zune in stand by. this is not good as battery power is being wasted to keep memory in ram. the ram is the main reason the zune starts faster from standby however it needs battery power to keep memory.

U seem to be very worried .
Well its completely safe to hold back and down to switch the device off.
And it really doesnt matter which u unplug the zune or the usb from the port, i keep my usb always plugged in i just connect and disconnect the zune from the pc.
