Zune AV Kit Accessories

I purchased the Home AV Kit (dock, output to TV, remote, etc.) and was wondering if there is a trick in getting the remote to work with the Zune device because I've tried a number of ways to use it and have had no luck. And of course my kit didn't come with any instructions or anything useful.

The Zune must be docked as the Zune device itself does not have IR.
