I was wondering if ZuneBoards could create and IM service between users. This wouldn't be too hard to do. The site can already detect if people are online or not. Much like the Facebook update, I want a little IM bar at the bottom of the screen. Just a quick idea I wanted to throw at the staff.

More in particular as a webapp designer it would not be too incredibly difficult for me (actually it would take me all of about 45 seconds) to create a stand-alone program that used webpages to do exactly this. However I really like permission first or at least input on this.

More importantly, the main page already has a users online box at the bottom and a shoutbox on the top.

You might as well just go into the shoutbox to do it, or if you wanna keep secret, I think they already added a new feature in the shoutbox to send private messages within the shoutbox.

Meh, not really necessary. We've already got the shoutbox, we can figure out when people are online, and if really private IM is needed, there's always actual IM clients. Also, the Facebook IM annoys the hell out of me.

We have something similar, it's a treat for premium and staff and other "colored" people.

Once you get your post count up you can access the shoutbox though and you already can use the PM system which is akin to Email

I believe that Zuner2012 is right we should have a chat feature. It could make installing, and programing games, programs, and codes on zunes way easier. It could help a lot of people but me, due to the fact that i don't have one, but are willing to help people solve their problems.

ZUNE WILL RULE EVENTUALLY

yeah we have the shoutbox for instant messaging. If you want something on the bottom of the page, that would be like having a shoutbox on every page for everyone with 25+ posts to see it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but that puts a crap load of stress on the server. Which is why our shoutbox is set to refresh so slow already right? So that the server doesn't get too bogged down.

Anyway, I think a separate client would be a great idea.
