[SOLVED] zB Shoutbox issues:

lately I've noticed that the shoutbox has gotten much slower than it used to be, and on top of that it tends to log me off zB every few minutes almost at random... this may be an issue on my end, but I'm not having problems with cookies or the router, so anyone have any ideas? or should this be taken up with at the administrative level? seems like something needs some reworking, or possibly have the shoutbox replaced by an IRC chatroom with a java IRC client sitting in the shoutbox's place... all comments and ideas are welcome!

then, another question I Must ask to anyone who might know, is: does anyone on ZuneBoards have the capacity to force a user to log off their account on the boards? - I try my best not to break rules on here, so it kinda confuses me that I've found no good reason on my side (computer, router, connection, cookies, browser) for it to be happening, I'd just like to know what could be causing this.. if anyone has any idea, Please tell me.

Did you tick the Remember Me box when logging in?

I do that about 50% of the time, maybe that's what the problem is. I'll log in with the Remember me box checked each time and see if the problem is solved.

I recently changed the time before the box refreshed. The problem with the shoutbox is it takes quite some traffic and sql queries, meaning it uses alot of resources. I have played around with placing in a java IRC client however there's a few problems with that. First, it has to load and most take some time to load. Second, we have less control over an IRC box than our shoutbox. Third, certain commands don't work, such as privileged messages (using a different room fails b/c then you have to change rooms to see the messages).

Logout:
we are not remotely logging you out, it is most likely you not hitting the remember me button, if you don't click that and don't change pages for some time, you'll be logged out as inactive.

thanks for the details, I do view various pages / threads / posts on the boards, but oftentimes in seperate tabs, for some reason I think the SB doesn't notice that I'm on another tab in Firefox. is that possible?

no, the shoutbox doesn't log you out, your cookies time out. If you are being active it is likely that your cookies just hit their limit. Regardless, hitting remember me should solve it

I've never been logged out, but I have noticed the refresh time. Maybe you should look into IRC more.

For a while, the shoutbox didn't show up for me. It's working fine now.

I've noticed that while "remember me" is checked when I log in, it doesn't seem to bump me off the site nearly as often, but it still has a real slow refresh at times and seems to not always notice my "using the site" when I'm on it on 4 other tabs..
