[SOLVED] Fix to front page comments

There should be a way to trace or have to log in to post comments on front page articles. While you are supposed to comment on the topic of the article, I find the comment system widely abused. The moderation has no power to disable the comments [1] and impersonations can easily occur [2]. I think an easier way to fix this minor problem than to need a log in to comment would be to publicly display the ip of users. The ip address of users could be used to check against the ip listed on the comment. Since only the moderators can view the ip of users, then only moderators are able to know the username of the person making the comment. Because the moderators do not find this issue or the comments made on some topics [3] to be major problems, they ignore them. The user offended therefore cannot give the user who made a comment negative rep. Only a thumbs down is the penalty allowing anyone to create an irritant comment freely without consequence. Although this is a minor issue, it is still a problem that leaves the moderators as the only users able to retaliate against offending comments made against them.

Moderation includes admins, witch have power to delete comments. Globals an higher can find out the username of a commenter. Making any IP public is a very bad idea.

Why do you say the moderators do not think this is an issue? I do.

I like the idea of logging in to post comments, but that would take alot of work to pt in place.

It is in theory simple, but last time we tried it caused a lot of errors. Until there is a new system to integrate our frontpage software to our vBulletin software we are stuck.

It's a nice idea and we thought of it before, but it's not do-able for now.

I thinks that only you guys have the ability to post on the front page, we can only comment. But yeah that is good advice to moderators and staff too I guess?
