I was looking at the flood of posts and all the people clammoring for zb$, and I thinking, zb$ might kill rep.

I'd still use the rep, but I dunno.. I haven't been seeing a whole lot of posts that are rep worthy, and the ones I have been seeing, I've already repped that person somewhere else, so I have to spread it around. =/

It is a way to reward, pay people back for help.

They are two different things, for different purposes.

A user with very high amount of $zB is not necessarily a 'good' or respected person within the community, they've simply accumulated a lot of posts.

I give rep frequently usually for the same reasons as some of you guys and sometimes for no reason whatsoever.

Rep is good, so I think it should just be kept. Not many people use it, but enough people do to keep it alive.

the rep system should be implemented on each post rather so that individual posts could be voted up or down. it also helps to remind people to +rep the poster because they can visually see the rep on that post. it's on other forums im on and it works very well, they just added a +- to the top right with a counter to keep track of the rep on the post. when a post reaches -5 it gets collapsed, and if its the first post in a thread and it reaches +10 it gets promoted to the featured threads forum.

the purpose is to reward someone for making a meaningful or helpful post. when someone answers a question for you or helps you out with a problem you're having you should give them rep for doing so.
