you have to play the first metal gear sold game on psx, or the first metal gear on the nes. its just a game with a very good story line

MGS1,2,&3 are almost required to really appreciate MGS4 however there will be several redone cutscene flashbacks that would fill you in. I am a big fan of the series and I even have Metal Gear(not solid) for the NES

i have mgs3 substance online and it was great when you could play online but now the servers are down and you can play online anymore, oh and mgs3 substince comes with Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2 on the bonus cd
