Street Fighter Hits Next Gen

After 11 years a true predecessor to Street Fighter 3 (Arcade release 1997) will be hitting arcades, 360 and PS3 possibly as early as summer of this year.

The game is rendered in 3d but moves across a set 2d environment. The gameplay is said to be reminiscent of Street Fighter 2 Turbo with a mix of certain characters (Ken, Ryu, Chun Li) having abilities similar to SF3 3rd Strike. Parrying from SF3 has returned as well as a new Ultra Combo system that unleashes a cinematic style of attack.

Confirmed Characters:

Ryu
Ken
Guile
Chun-Li
E. Honda
Zangeif
Dhalsim
Blanka
and a new fighter Crimson Viper.

Can't wait to see how this unfolds.

wow! I loves those games when I was a kid! I haven't played them in years. But I remember them being awesome. This is something I would get if I had a PS3.

the screenshots for this game look AWESOME! im glad they stuck to a 2d fighting plane rather than going 3d, we have enough 3d fighters already. apparently the 3d environments will be interactive. not smashing your opponent into stuff interactive, but background/forground stuff moves when you jump through it or throw a fireball near it. i think the "realism" in the environments will balance out the madness of the fighting system (which i love!).
i am excited. i also hope they release a high quality arcade stick with this... gamepads dont cut it.

it needs an arcade version otherwise i will hold up my arcade highscores on Marvel Vs Capcom 1+2 last time I was at the arcade i occasionally go to I was top on both machines

I think its looks pretty damn awesome. I like that they kept the traditional 2-D feel, with new age graphics, instead of copping out and trying to make the character look like something outta Virtual Fighter or Dead or Alive. Definitely a title that im looking forward to.

Akuma needs to be there along with M. Bison, Vega, and the great Alpha characters, like Rose, Guy, Cody and the Super characters such as T. Hawk, Fei Long, Cammy.

The character list will make or break this incarnation along with the fighting.
