Default What are your picks for best games of 2007?

Just wondering what games you guys thought were the best. I have my own personal picks, but what about you guys? Only games that came out this year, please.

Here's my list:
Best Multiplayer: Halo 3

Best single player/Campaign mode: Not sure... I liked Halo 3's, and I found CoD4's rather boring...

Best Online capabilities: Halo 3... you'll see what I mean.

Best portable: Hmm... I loved Pokemon Diamond and Pearl...

Best fighter: Gotta be Naruto: Rise of a Ninja... the fighting system is great, and the Jutsu system adds a lot to the battles.

Best Downloadable Content pack: Gotta be Crackdown's packs... The "god mode" thing was great, and free.

Best demo: BioShock

Best Pick up and play: Guitar Hero III.. Decent songs, but it's great for a quick 15 minute session.

Best Value: The Orange Box. Enough said.

Most original: Portal.

Most addicting: Halo 3... I spent 4 hours in Forge alone today, not to mention Matchmade games

Best RPG: Super Mario Galaxy... I've only played the demo at a best buy kiosk, but it was great to see good ol' Mario again.

Best Platformer: Super Mario Galaxy... Just a great game in general

my Game of the Year: Gotta be Halo 3. This was my response to one of Xbox360Fanboy's best games picks:

Quote:
I agree on Halo 3.. I haven't played any other game as much as I have Halo 3, except Halo 2, and I'm catching up to it fast. I literally just got off of a 4 hour forge session, and I'm not even done. I still have to add my weapon spawns and everything.

It seems that people just want to hate Halo because it's popular. People say "Ugh, it's horrible", but look at the sales numbers. Then, look at the amount of unique players in a day.

I'm still not bored with it either. Forge has added several hours a day I can play, I'm still working on Legendary campaign, and I'm working on getting my level 42 in Lone Wolves to level 45. There's plenty to do, while I haven't even touched CoD4 in 2 weeks.

And for all of those people who say CoD4 is better, I disagree. It's a good game, a damn good game, but it's always the same old same old. But it seems like winning and losing is more weighted to those who have the better weapons. If someone has a 50 cal sniper, you're screwed assuming they're a decent shot. If they have a carbine, you're not really worried.

In Halo, every weapon has a way to beat the others. A sniper can take out a lot of people if they do it fast, but as soon as someone pulls out a Battle Rifle and hits the sniper, the BR's got the upper hand.

Halo is just more polished and balanced. Every person can use the same weapons and have an equal chance at getting them, meaning it relies more on skill than the weapon you've unlocked.
Quote:
Oh no, I love the games. But to me, Halo is a more competitive game. It's like Halo is the competitive fast-paced Shooter, Gears of War is the suspenseful tactical shooter, while CoD4 is in the middle as a semi-tactical medium to fast paced shooter.

Trust me, I love all 3 games. I know that in CoD4 you can till dominate with the crappier weapons, but they are much less balanced. In Halo, it's about strafing, using cover, and using the right combination of weapons. CoD4 is about staking out, camping then popping out at the right moment.

I dunno. I'm a a big fan of the Call of Duty franchise (Played nothing but CoD2 and Halo 2 when I first got my 360 until Gears came out), but it seemed like CoD4 was trying to compete, rather than innovate. What's up with the metagame? Bungie announces the metagame in Halo 3, then a few weeks later it's in CoD4? Seemed kind of like "Quick, they added this, let's add it too".

But honestly, I think Halo did everything better. 4 player online co-op is amazing, Forge has added hours and hours of replayability, the Multiplayer can't be beat, the fanbase is astounding, the quality of DLC is amazing, saved films and file sharing is something I'd like to see in every game, and Bungie.net allows me to track every single stat I could possibly want to look up, and even ones I don't need? It's cool to see that I kill 1.2 people for every time I die, it's great that I can compare tenths of a percent between me and my friends and I can say "Wow, I need to work on so-and-so if I want to be as good as you in this or that map".

People say Halo 3 was a disappointment, but I ask "What else could you possibly want?". Honestly, what does Call of Duty have that Halo doesn't? They're different games, and I understand that people look for different things in games, but I don't think anyone can say that Halo 3 is a bad game or that it was a disappointment. I couldn't be happier.
So, what about you guys? Care to disagree?

Best portable: Not a big portable gamer

Best Downloadable Content pack: Liked CrackDown as well, but the one that's 800MS points continually breaks my balls. It tries to whore it all the time

Best demo: BioShock

Best Pick up and play: Rock Band.

Best Value: The Orange Box. Enough said.

Most original: Portal.

Most addicting: Portal. Played it non-stop.

Best RPG: Half Life 2: Episode 2

One of the best group/party games I've come across is Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. Even though I thought it was going to be a terrible game at first I find it very entertaining to play with my friends, although it's quite a bit of physical work. Don't rule it out at first just because it seems... different.

Best Multiplayer: Unreal Tournament III (Hoverboards + orbs = Onslaught Perfection)

Best single player/Campaign mode: Mix between Crysis, Bioshock and the Witcher

Best Online capabilities: Unreal Tournament III (Huge player numbers + great maps) or Crysis (Crackdown + Halo - the Flood = Crazy good)

Best Downloadable Content pack: Red and Black Pack for Rainbow Six Vegas

Best Demo: Crysis

Best Pick up and play: The Witcher...although time does pass quickly.

Best Value: Rockstar Games pack for PC (GTA series, Manhunt, Max Payne, etc.)

Most Original: Mass Effect

Most Addicting: The Witcher or Crysis (the suit modes are just fun as hell not to mention the North Korean AI or the multiplayer)

Best RPG: Mass Effect. Huge setting with great storyline and a very nice look.

Best Platformer: Guitar Hero III, because it doesn't work quite as well without that great Wireless guitar.

My Game of the Year: Crysis (What do you get when you cross Halo, Far Cry, Crackdown, Unreal Tournament III and throw in new ideas...Crysis).

Crysis will run on lesser computers, it is just some people complain if they can't run a game at max settings. Hell, several years ago there was a tide of complaints about Doom 3 and buying new hardware but it didn't stop them from playing.

For the record, I play Crysis at 1280x720, Medium setting, DirectX 9, 8xAF and 2xAA with no problems. Although the shadows need to optimized more because that is what will slow down any system. Don't believe me? Put shadow lighting to low and witness the difference in performance.

2nd place would be the Witcher because it has a superb story drawn from the novel and a very enthralling world and design plus game system.

I don't play many games, but I know Splinter Cell (all of them) is exceptionally awesome.
