Would this be possible for a Zune 4/8 GB if you modified the following things:

1) Instead of replacing KeelBaseline, you replace ScorpiusBaseline.cab.
2) Instead of Play Back Left, you do Play Back Center.

I have a Zune 4 and would like to downgrade it to anytime the hacks still work.

From 1.4, you could probably upgrade to 2.5...

What is the reason this will only work on a Zune 30? If it is just the key combination (for erasing everything), you can just press <-, ||>, and the center of the touchpad.

Well, each version of the firmware is written specifically for each version of the Zune. Firmware (even 3.1) written for the 30 won't run on the 120 or the 8. Same thing applies here: 1.4 will only run on the Zune it's written for, namely, the 30.

Simply:
The 30 game with version 1.x of the software/firmware
The 8/16/80 started with 2.0 and cant be downgraded further
The 120 started with 2.5 (I believe) and cant be downgraded further

Is there anyway to downgrade the firmware the same way as the tutorial says, except with 2 or 2.5?

For all those asking about a 3.x to 2.x downgrade, I believe all you have to do is uninstall 3.x and re-install 2.x (but first, make a backup of the drivers folder in the Zune directory and store it somewhere safe!). Then you can wipe your Zune using the proper key combination (whatever yours may be), and plug it in. It should then install the proper 2.x firmware onto your device.

It will force you to upgrade if I'm not mistaken..

Actually, it won't if you unplug your ethernet (DSL or cable, I would assume) or disconnect from your internet (wireless or dial-up).

The trick is to find the 2.x software somewhere on the internet.

Smile Does version 1.3 of the software support the Zune 120gb?

I recently bought a zune 120 and discovered to my horror that there is not 5 star rating system. EEEK. I have been browsing around looking for a way to resolve this either by scraping the zune software all together and looking for something else to manage my music or by retrograding the software. My big question is. Does the old 1.3 software work with the zune 120gb since this was not a device on the market when 1.3 was out. Or better yet.... is there another software that works well with syncing the zune.. there are alot of ideas surrounding songbird, but I have found nother conclusive saying that it does work with the zune. Does windows media playe work?

Search for "zSuite" in these forums - I believe that software allows you to sync using other software like WMP or MediaMonkey. However, it doesn't work with the 3.x firmware, yet. I don't know if it works with Songbird, but it's certainly worth a try.

I have no idea if the Zune 120 would work with the old 1.x software (I suspect it does not).

I'm fairly sure it's a yes on the Songbird, any player that's WPD compatible will work, and it's pretty much a standard.

It won't, as the 1.x firmware was only written for 30's.

Default 2.5

I tried this same procedure with the zune 2.5 firmware and it worked flawlessly. The 3.1 software said that it failed to update properly, but the about zune on the device shows that it installed 2.5 properly
you can find the firmware from here: http://www.zuneboards.com/forums/fir...are-2-5-a.html
Kudos to you, for figuring this out

I tried this with a 1.3 software installer, and it updated to 3.1. When I tried to unplug the internet, it told me it had to before it would install. However, I was able to downgrade my Zune to 1.4, it just doesn't work in 3.1. Any help? I uninstalled 3.1 completely before I tried to reinstall 1.3

EDIT: Okay, I got a different setup package, and I have software 1.3 on my computer. However, when I plug in my Zune, my computer keeps thinking it's getting unplugged and plugged back in several times each second. Any ideas?

How were you able to bypass the part where the software checks for updates?

You need to unplug your computer from the internet.

I had this happen to me many times. Only way I was able to resolve it was reinstall the Zune 3.1 Software, get the drivers (as stated in the tutorial), and reinstall Zune 1.x software.

Default Still got problem...

Thanks Canberra25 for your guide. However, when I tried it on my Zune, the firmware update stopped at the page showing "Downloading update" and the screen of my Zune stays on the second stage (showing "2, On your PC, open the Zune software..."). Please help! Thanks a lot.

When you search for the baseline.cab, do any of them come up?
If not, you need to download the full package of the Zune 3.x software and install that.

I had that happen to me too, trying to help a friend downgrade his Zune. Installing the full package fixed his problem.
Good luck!
