in the zune software, go to device, music, right click on the music you want to delete, remove it, only remove from zune...

Yes, what runtohell said. Make sure you don't ever use the HDD hack to delete music or else ZS resyncs it automatically.

What he said also works for pictures and videos.

Please listen to me very carefully

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT delete songs manually while in the Zune software (v.2.3) unless you want them deleted from your computer as well. I made the mistake of doing just that and deleted my whole 65gb collection of music that I had compiled over the past 6-7 years. Luckily I was able to recover about 90% of it but have noticed that the tags are all jacked up on most of them, I click on a song that's supposed to be Michael Jackson and it's actually Madonna(not really, but you get the point).

This is what I would do, make a dedicated file that you will use to add/remove music for your Zune and set that file to sync automatically. So if there's files in the folder you don't want on the zune, move them to your regular music folder and when you plug in your zune those files will be removed. And just the same, as you add files to that folder they will be added to the zune when you connect.

This is true, but you can just to what runtohell said and do it from the software. As long as you choose to only remove it from your device, then you'll be fine.

You can delete absolutely everything off your Zune with a button combo =] just if you ever get bored.

I didn't remember seeing that option when I was doing this, so I tried it again since reading that and again, didn't see that option. I'm using v.2.3

my little experience has shown me just how important it is for me to get an external HD for my system too.

Yes it gives you a warning unless you tell it not to, which you'd have to be an idiot or an Apple Fanboy(sorry, same thing) to do.
