Hey, great guide. I hit a snag with cover art and ended up with %artist% - %album%.jpg and cover.jpg on the Zune. Easily fixed though, it was just a miss checked setting. More importantly, I cleared my Zune's music before syncing with MM just to be safe, and some of my tracks seem to randomly have 5 seconds of silence in the track before the actual audio starts. Any reason for that? I'm also having trouble getting the Zune to re recognize after a sync, be it using generic, zune, or the hd hack. Removing from the device manager didn't help, it just keeps loading in a loop saying found new hardware.

Default Do You Need to Break the Zune Sync Every Time?

I have successfully used MediaMonkey several times to sync my Zune, but it appears that you have to start with the Zune program and terminate the sync every time for this to work. Is this correct or am I missing something?

Also, when syncing with MediaMonkey it seems to sync every file over again instead of just the updates. Is there a setting somewhere that can prevent that?

One other related item: I've installed the HD hack. It allows me to delete files from the Zune, but when I try to add files I get the following error, "The "file name" could not be placed on the device. You do not have permission to create this item." Has anyone else seen this? I'm logged in as Adminstrator. I tried to set the security permissions on the Zune, but it doesn't seem possible. Is there a fix for this? (I'm running XP SP2.)

Thanks

Did you use zAlt to set it back to Zune?

audioonly - yeah you need to repeat the process every time. There's a way to disable automatic sync. Just go into the settings and look at the setting the software has for your zune. For the HD hack to work, you need to unlock the Zune too

PON - Thanks man!

Very nice, it worked for me on regular media monkey. I didn't really mind the zune software that much, but i installed zAlternator anyways for future use.

TY!

More formats?
My recommendation would be to use mediamonkey to sync audio and then HD Hack the videos on.

One thing that's cool is that you can set up mediamonkey to convert before syncing media. You'll have to look under devices to do that.

This tutorial is awesome!!! I purchased my zune a month ago and have hated the software due to the mixup of album art/album titles/etc. I use MM and love it! This tutorial is exactly what I've been looking for. I have one question though. I downloaded the zAlternator and have got the sync process going but all of my songs say unknown album and unknown artist and have no album art. Is there a setting that I should have changed before syncing or will this be fixed when the sync is complete?

Great job Dizzy! This worked great.

Moving forward from here, can I make changes to my Zune through MediaMonkey, such as deleting a CD, or changing the tags or re-doing album art, if it is blurry? If so, how would I do this. I would hate to have to delete the entire device and start over everytime I want to take something off my Zune.

Any thoughts would be great.
Greg

They're all fine in MediaMonkey.

p.s. it's my first day as a zune owner... zAlternator pushed me off the fence
I got same Problem too I can't seem to figure out why I when to Yahoo and sync the same album comes up as the same thing I retag with MM and It shows that the album is right do anybody know how to fix this problem I also use Yahoo Jukebox it show the same thing as Unknown also

When I get my Zun to say 'syncing,' then when I open 'MediaMonkey,' I do not see the little zune icon down in the left right above 'MyComputer.' What is wrong?

MediaMonkey reads your songs as Unknown Artist? Or the Zune?
If it's the Zune, it's probably a tag issue. Under tools, there should be an option to convert tags to ID3v4(.2)

Yeah. If you break the sync process, you can actually edit information on the Zune itself. It's really cool.
