Default How to wireless sync!

I'll post more information later!

Sync Your Zune Wirelessly

If you want to sync wirelessly, you'll need a few things:

An 802.11b or 802.11g wireless network.
A supported network authentication scheme.
The SSID (network name) of the wireless network.
The security key (also known as a passphrase) for the wireless network.
Your Zune device can store one wireless configuration at a time.

Set up
When you set up wireless sync, the Zune software searches your computer for a wireless profile. Zune will automatically locate the SSID and security key that your computer uses to connect to the network if:
  1. You're using Windows Vista.
  2. Your computer is wirelessly connected to the network.
If you're not using Windows Vista, or if your computer has a wired connection to the network (that is, it's connected to a wireless router with an Ethernet cable), your Zune device can scan for available wireless networks and present a list of the SSIDs it finds. Select the SSID of the network your computer is connected to.

Set up wireless sync automatically
  1. Plug your Zune device into your computer.
  2. Sign in to the Zune software and click Settings, Device, Wireless Sync.
  3. Click Set Up Wireless Sync.
  4. When the Zune software finds the SSID that your computer uses to connect to the network, select Yes, use this network.

To scan for a different network, click No, choose a different network. If your network doesn't appear on the list, try again or click Show Advanced Settings and manually enter your network settings.

Click Finish.
Set up wireless sync manually
  1. Plug your Zune device into your computer.
  2. Sign in to the Zune software and click Settings, Device, Wireless Sync.
  3. Click Set Up Wireless Sync, Show Advanced Settings.
  4. Type the SSID of your wireless network in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) field.
  5. Select your network type.
  6. Click Save Settings.

For help with manual configuration, see Troubleshoot Wireless Sync.
Sync automatically
Once you've configured Zune for wireless syncing, all you need to do is dock your Zune or plug it into a power outlet. After one minute, your Zune will begin syncing with your computer. It will remain wirelessly linked with your computer and sync any new content in your collection until you undock or unplug the device (or until you press cancel).

To sync content to your Zune automatically, the following conditions have to be met:
  1. Your Zune must be docked or plugged in to a power outlet.
  2. Your Wi-Fi network must be on.
  3. You must be logged in to your Windows user account on the computer where the Zune software is installed. (The computer can be locked, but you must be logged in.) Of course, the computer also needs to be on the same network as your Zune.
  4. No media can be playing on the Zune device.
  5. The Zune device must be inactive for at least one minute.
  6. Battery level must be at least 10 percent. If the battery gauge is red, automatic sync can't take place.
  7. Sync manually
  8. You also can start wireless sync manually from your Zune—whether the device is plugged in or not. After manually syncing, your Zune disconnects from the wireless network to save battery power.
Start wireless sync manually

Make sure your computer is on and you're logged in to your Windows user account.
On your Zune, select settings, wireless, sync now.
Your Zune displays status of the sync process, including:
  1. Looking for network
  2. Connecting to network
  3. Connecting to PC
  4. Preparing to sync
  5. Syncing
  6. Sync complete

This is the Microsoft tutorial on Zune.net.

Anyway, It works on the Zune 30. It's pretty neat that I don't need to use my cable to sync anymore.

what do you need to do the wireless sync? I have a wireless network but not a wireless router. The reason i have a wireless card is cause there is a isp 2 houses over that has open wifi. Can i use that? when i scan for networks nothing is found though.

Unfortunately, I think you need a wireless router.

Here's a video I made. I didn't really show it off to it's full glory but whatever.

I still cant seem to do this because i have

Internet > Router > another wifi router

Internet > Router > Computer

It doesn't wanna work, zune software finds the router, but uhh, the zune can't connect. Oh well.

Hey everyone, I had the 'Connecting to PC...' issue to.

After spending about 30 minutes on the phone with Zune support. I found what you need to do to make it work right. Here it is.

1. Goto services , in the adminstator section of control panel
Goto the bottom and make sure the services below are set to automatic and started
1. Zune Network Sharing Service
2. Zune Wireless Configuration Service
2. If you have windows Live OneCare installed, make sure the service OneCare Firewall is started, if it's not it will not let the zune connect to the computer.

Now restart the zune software and everything should work. Mine has worked everytime since I fixed these services. I had the OneCare firewall disabled and I couldn't connect. I did uninstall OneCare, and when I rebooted my computer the Wireless sync worked fine.

I guess the time has finally come for my first post!

I am using an unsecured wireless network. For reasons I have been unable to determine, my Zune software is unable to detect the network even after I entered the SSID. I verified that all of the Zune services on the computer were started. Any thoughts? This is my first stop so I will continue to search and report if I get a response elsewhere.

When I try to conect to zune software, It says it's not avaible in my region.

I'm in Brazil. So if I can't conect in the service I will not be able to use the wireless sync?

thanks

If you know your network's SSID, WEP/WAP then you may be able to do it manually under "Advanced Settings".

Default Can't connect to the PC

I've followed the instructions that everyone has posted - thanks! But I am still getting the error message when trying to sync wirelessly - Services are running and I have disabled Windows Firewall - still no luck.

Zune Information
V2.2 (1040)
Bootloader 425

I have also uninstalled the Zune software and reinstalled - Wireless configuration is correct - See network just not connecting to the PC - Windows XP SP2. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I got mine working. First I changed the Service settings (see post #8) and included Wireless Portable Devices and Zune Shared Service as exceptions in Windows Firewall.

One strange thing, though. I can only get it to work when my computer is connected wirelessly to my network, it will not work when I connect thru an Ethernet cable.
