Default How to convert your movies into high quality Zune format

This will explain how to convert any video you happen to have on your computer into a high quality, Zune ready video that will not require conversion whilst syncing.

1. Getting a Converter
First thing you'll need is a video converter to change your files that aren't in a Zune-ready format (such as .avi), into a Zune-ready format (.wmv).

2. Changing WinAVI's Settings
It's simple enough, just change the settings by following these steps:

--Click "wmv"

--Find your file

--Click "Advanced"

--Click "WMV Encoder", then change the settings to match what is in this picture:

---Hit "OK" and wait for the video to convert 100%.

Be sure to check the file first, make sure everything is how you want it.

3. Change the Metadata
Download zMeta from our Tools section. (You'll need WinRAR, see the beginning of the next step) Open it, and hit "Open files" or "Open Directory" and select the file/folder.

--Hit "Videos", then right click the file and select "Set as Movie".

--Click the file on the left, and edit the data. It's best to use a source like imDB to make accurate info, or you can just do basic info, like Title.

--Once you're done, hit "Close Files" at the top, and close zMeta.

Hope this helped for all you video converting newbies ; )

Is this free? Because I tried to download it once before and it was just a free trial. And only converted a small amount and with a watermark.

Nice, thanks.
One thing, what will happen if I change the picture size to bigger size, say 640*480?
I'm using a zune 8G.

You will get a larger file and a larger aspect ratio, meaning higher quality. I originally wrote this when the Zune 30 was the only available Zune. This basically gives the best size to quality ratio. But I guess if you are a quality whore, 640x480 would work.

So should the zune program have to convert these files when I load them onto my zune? I've converted an avi file as directed above and it shows up in the zune program, but then I have to wait again for the zune to convert the wmv while it sync's. It just says "converting" and takes forever.

.avi isn't supported by Zune..
but if you convert an avi to wmv (Click the wmv button, not avi) and use those settings, it shouldn't need converting unless the framerate was above 30 (I think).
