Cool New iPod Classic/Nano Suck?

Yeah I know it says that under my name, but now I have proof! One article I just read sure says so...literally.

In it, the writer (Marco) describes a recent visit to the Apple store to buy his kid the newest iPod Classic. What he found was the new 'Pod's interface to be visually cool, but hard to navigate. The players would skip 'like crazy' when trying to do some of the most simplest functions (volume, opening menus, browsing lists, changing tracks, seeking within tracks). He says Apple tries to make it stunning visually, but fails miserably. The famed cover flow (which I hate) on the nano is so slow, all you end up looking at is a ton of "?" while the player tries desperately to catch up and load the image.

iPoods DO suck! MWAHAHAHAHA!!

To be fair, I seem to recall Zune's interface being a bit laggy up to (I think) v1.3. I don't know how Apple is with firmware updates, since I've never owned an iPod. If they do update firmware, it should be fixed soon. If they don't, that's horrible.

Sounds like a case of rushing to market. It's sad that this is the norm for business now. However, at least now it's possible to fix it without returning it to the manufacturer.

yeah, true, but it's still left to see if it's truly just a firmware issue, or has Apple tried to cram too much crap in it? Seriously, cover flow, which I would imagine, takes up a chunk of cached memory...a long with playing music at the same time...could it be possible that this first iteration of a watered-down 'mobile' mac OS is not all that it's cracked up to be?

Did you watch the announcements? They totally skipped showing the performance of the new OS...quickly switching to other features...and price... And if you did watch the announcements, was it me or was the reaction to the new models not that excited?

My zune did start to freeze for a period of time, but it had about 0.7Gb of memory left, so thats why, also the music never skiped while navigating menus, and never had any trouble when loading art (except for the known trouble caused by zune software). But the new nano sounds kinda sweet, if it was 16gig i would totaly get one, but it isnt so to bad apple

that's what happens when they rush their stuff out. they can only remain on top and revolutionize for so long.

From personal experience with the 5g ipod video, there isn't much processing power. When I put the rockbox OS on it, playing songs while navigating menus with or without pretty themes would cause it to skip and slow down a great deal.

I'm sure with the coverflow feature, (cover discharge!) a similar lack of processing power becomes evident.
