So linux wasnt as bad as I thought basic but yet can get the job done. At least through college courses (non-graphical). I might use it for my laptop as my main OS just because it is so lightweight and just put Vista on my desktop.

As a gamer and having used Cedega with Ubuntu Ultimate, I've found Linux to be very unstable when emulating windows-based games. Native games for Linux run very well, but stable compatibility with the rest of the world is something Linux lacks. After finally bringing my hardware up to specs, Vista Ultimate runs beautify - and even more so now that many updates to it have been released.

If you are looking to just do word processing and web browsing, then Linux should work great.
