Today the US Copyright Royalty Board is going to decide if they agree to increase music royalty payments as requested by the National Music Publishers Association, and for some reason the British are panicking over the idea that the Apple iTunes Music Store will shut down because of this. The reason for their hysteria is a Board at the Library of Congress deposition by iTunes vice president Eddy Cue in 2007:

Apple not hiking prices and charging people more money?

|No, they would never, ever do anything like that.|

Although, it will come in all sorts of colors, firmware update is $10 and if you want the premium buds from Foxconn, fork over some more cash. Did we fail to mention that 4gb of DDR2 800 is of such |high quality| that we could only let it go for the bottom bargain price of $500 extra to bump you up from 2gb to 4gb.

Apparently, someone has been living in lala world when it comes to Apple.

Yeah, I guess we shouldn't be surprised if iTunes hikes from $0.99 to $1.49 or something, but still, it was a nice dream. At least the iSheep will suffer and convert to Zunes.

Hmm. I doubt that they would shut the store down, but anything is possible. I would hope not, though. It's a good way to find and buy music.

QFT for the many who use it and hits the nail right on the head.

A price hike wouldn't stop people from buying music online, after all they already drop 99 cents USD on 128/256 AAC. Maybe with 1.49 USD they might offer some ALAC since they couldn't support FLAC. I tell you, the first one that supports FLAC or TAK in their music store, software and device, will wonder why they suddenly have a huge influx of people using their product.

Would anyone be unhappy to see more codecs supported? I mean, it's not like some useless feature that takes up space, codecs are just something no one really notices even when they use'em, unless they're using something non-standard like a codec pack.
