Default Camera Question

I dont know a whole lot about digital cameras but my parents are tired of me using their camera and their cam sucks cause it takes like 2 sec to take a picture. So working this summer I met the=is girl who was really into taking pictures and had a sick olympus, so ive been loking into cameras and so far, for what im looking for this is the only thing ive found. http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-came...-32313272.html
I was wondering if theres anything else out there that compares to this in a similar price range, im looking for something thats waterproof and freezeproof like the one I posted, or is that camera gonna be my only choice with those features in that price/size range?

Honestly.
The MP don't matter if you aren't going to blow up the pictures to 19x13.
The Olympus is the only camera that I know of that uses XD cards, is water and short proof.
So if your really want those things, the olympus is for you.

Id say my biggest 3 things are durability, pocket-ability, and quick shooting. Im not looking for a whole lot of photo options and I doubt Ill be making any prints, its mostly for capturing moments ANYWHERE, and i think freeze proof is a big issue cause last time I went snowboarding our digi cam went on the fritz cause of the old, waterproof is big thing cause Im on the water as much as I can be in the summer, I know it doesnt float but a floating wrist strap would solve that, basically my question is is there a waterproof, drop proof, freeze proof camera for less than 200$ which is the best price Ive found for that cam, and it seems like thats about all there is with those features.

Just make sure the zoom level your looking for is optical, not digital.

Optical is where the lens comes out right? But again I am more than willing to sacrifice things like that for the ruggedness that the olympus is offering.

it really all depends on what you want to use it for, cuz features are always traded off for other features

Digital zoom is a scam, it's not zoom at all but just cropping the existing image, thus making it look like crap.

The optican zoom refers to the farthest distance the lenses can see without sacrificing quality, Digital zoom is when the camera digitally enhances the zoom drastically reducing the quality.

Honestly? No. Such rugged cameras don't get a huge market because everyone either wants the cheap-throwaways or the higher end Point and Shoots. The middle of the market doesn't get half the attention. If this Olympus satisfies your needs, it's likely the only one. C-Net might have some reviews on cameras that could fit the bill, but I haven't the foggiest idea how to search for them short of brute force.
