well good luck with that because re writing firmware on an ipod touch to support windows mobile is impossible......because apple and microsoft uses different methods when writing (windows mobile is tied to the firmware) as is safari .........for example when vista first came about they tried to install it on an apple machine and guess wat happened ......THE HARDWARE CHEWED IT UP AND SPIT IT OUT LIKE GUM.....

PS GOOD LUCK ANYWAY.........AND THOSE PEOPLE DONT REALLY GIVE A **** BECAUSE THEY WORK THEIR ONLY TO RECEIVE A CHECK AT THE END OF THE WEEK......

Actually knowing how Microsoft has to support all hardware under the sun and the DAPs only have so many kinds of processors, etc. Microsoft would be closer to getting it work on an Apple DAP than the other way around. Apple doesn't support a whole bunch of hardware they pick and choose so that their OS is locked into the hardware, FYI the best hardware is not always chosen by Apple.

I willingly to bet it can be done with a little modification to the firmware, which has been done before on Apple DAPs... Apple Linux and Rockbox.

sinistermaniac,

When your friend gets it up and running make sure to come back with the results, i.e. pictures and vids, it might become quite popular in the modding community. Although, beware writing a new firmware that reads the right hardware identifiers may be a little difficult but where there is a will...there is a way.

Exactly. Not impossible, just improbable. In theory you might be able to adapt some of the existing drivers for HTC series phones to the purpose though.

Hm, I'll believe it when I see it. It would be neat though.

With the right group of coders who have the intelligence and skill -- it may be possible. But currently I don't think there is enough demand out there to justify all the time and effort it would take. It would also be costly to buy multiple Touches for testing purposes... The firmware on the iPod Touch has amazing battery management and runs really smooth. So for me personally, I would much rather install an application then a whole new firmware. And I would still want to be able to play my iTunes DRM'd songs on it as well. Now Dual-Booting would be tempting.

Gosh I hate it when people call it an "iTouch".

Yes, it's so unoriginal. next thing you know, they'll be calling a whole product line a number of things, and simply add the letter "i2 in front of it. Imagin it...iPhone, iPod, iWork, iMac...It's so...so....ORIGINAL. And for good measure, they'd do something ULTRA cool and just make the whole product line either black or white. Crazy stuff...Can you imagine how crappy that would be?

The reason I hate it is because there is a device by another company called the iTouch and I always get reminded of that 90's pop song "I Touch Myself"
