Urlfilter.ini is what you need to edit but I made it even easier...

Just download this: http://www.sendspace.com/file/t09kuj

and paste it into your Application Data (AppData for Vista) folder>Opera>Profile>

Replace what is there and enjoy a Opera without ads.

For the other, go to Tools>Preferences>Advanced>Tabs and checkmark open new tab next to active. Also, right click links and left click open in background is another method.

One more thing...

Type in opera:config in the address and press enter

Go to BitTorrent section and uncheck "Enable BitTorrent", now it will pass the torrrents to your torrent program.

Well, a bit late but I would advise not to use Opera, it is not known for it's reliability.

That is fanboy hogwash. Opera has a pile of reviews from various people that give it a secure and reliable rating as opposed to the other three, especially Safari.

Don't hate on it just because it is not "Open Source".

Each browser is for different individuals and each browser has its quirks. There is not a single perfect universal browser...yet.

I just got Opera 9.5, and I love it. The mouse gestures are what sold me. The speed of the rendering is like a bazillion times faster than IE and noticeably faster than firefox. It does crash at a few sites, although that's when I use the backup firefox. That might seem unappealing, but I think it's brilliant.

only gripes I have now are: no inline spelling( no red squiggly for things like szxnmgfnb) and facebook randomly gives me "cannot conect to facebook chat" errors w/ a little gray caution triangle.

any fix ideas for these?

I don't like how it makes new open file tab things for widgets. With FF, they tend to be implemented seamlessly into the browser

Well, Gow explained the ad thing. For inline spellchecking, I know I saw it somewhere. I'll take a look...Here's two inline spellchecking scripts.
Great Opera Spell checker! - Am I but your clockwork hero? - by Laurens
OSpell - Your In-Line Spell Checker for Opera

I think that the feature set in Opera simply blows all other browsers out of the water. It took me a fair amount of time just to get half the functionality of Opera into FF. The trash, Wand, BitTorrent, Speed Dial, sessions, online syncronization, and security all come standard. At the moment, FF actually has a major unpatched hole. Opera has none. IE has 10. ^_^

Not any other, I'm pretty sure Chrome takes speed king. But Opera's pretty up there. I know my computer isn't exactly a perfect benchmark, but it takes Opera <5 seconds to fully load. It takes FF >10 seconds, which is unbelievable annoying when I just want it to do one little thing-I've got FF set up through a special proxy, whereas Opera is set through the school proxy.

I've used it, and it has some nice ideas, but it really just doesn't do it for me. I'm stuck with the features that Opera has, and Chrome has less features than IE. The key things about Chrome are the use of Webkit, the new permissions structure, the new Javascript engine, and the splitting of tabs into separate processes. These are all things that could be integrated into other browsers since it's all open source.
