Default Ubuntu install help.

HELP ME PLEASE!
I'm running a Hp DV600t laptop with 958mb of RAM (going to upgrade here shortly), and AMD Turion 64 X2 Tl-50 1.60 GHZ processor. Running Vista Premium.
I recently decided I was going to dual boot with Ubuntu. I have a completely blank 120g external HDD and I extracted the ISO file to that. I start running the install program and it always errors out.
Please help me.
Here's some pictures.

I'll be gone from about 4 Central to 9 central for work but I'll be back to hopefully install Ubuntu after that.
Happy hunting.

I can help you, Im not sure if it works with wubi though. I have a HP Pavillion dv6000 so what works for me should work for you. Whenever you read this just send me a PM with your AIM name, or Google Chat name.

why use wubi? just boot off of the CD and run the guided install and use like half for windows and half for ubuntu or whatever, that way performance is higher too.

Yeah I would skip the whole wubi thing, Ubuntu makes it so easy to do a real dual boot. Just do that.

the method I will show you will not require a dual boot however it will be completed in the same way as a dual boot if you desire to dual boot. With AMD there is some complications with installing Linux, and I can guide you through step by step. Just remember to PM me with your IM name.

I never got Wubi to work. I have a 7.04 Install CD I just pop in the tray and install through that. The guy above can help you though.

Going out and saying AMD there is more problems with linux is completely false. The processor has nothing to do with it. Chipsets and stuff do. I would never generalize to say AMD has more problems installing linux than Intel. This issue is also completely unrelated to being AMD or Intel.

I suggest that a Linewbie try Ultumix's remix of Ubuntu as they include both KDE and GNOME plus several other stuff a Linewbie will need right out of the box.

http://www.mindblowingidea.com/Ultumix

I am currently seeding the Ultumix 0.177 x86-64 release on Linuxtracker.org so speeds of at least 100kb/s can be guaranteed.

What is Ultumix?

I suggest Fedora 9 x86-64 for more experienced Linewbies as it can use RPMS much like installing exe's on Windows. Plus has a lot more support and software at its disposal than some other companies. With new video drivers, a new kernel and much more it is quite a good distrobution to use.

By the by, I'll push any distro I like.
